A Division III standout at Washington University in St. Louis, Durbin signed for $50,000 as a Braves 14th-round pick in 2021 but lasted only one full season in the Atlanta system before he was traded to the Yankees in a three-player deal for Lucas Luetge in December 2022. He was a high-average, high-steal performer in pinstripes and batted .287 with 29 thefts in 82 games at Triple-A last summer. The 5-foot-6 infielder was a two-time Arizona Fall League standout to make up for lost at-bats – most recently for a broken right wrist – and set the AFL single-season SB record with 29 steals this fall. The Yankees added him to the 40-man in November and traded him a month later to the Brewers in a deal for Devin Williams.

The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance before unleashing a big leg kick. That said, his hand-eye coordination is so good that he thrives on making contact in the zone, running Z-contact rates above 90 percent on every pitch type he saw more than 40 times at Triple-A (per Synergy Sports). He doesn’t expand the zone much either, keeping walk rates healthy and K rates low. Power is very much in question. He ran a 100.5 mph 90th-percentile exit velocity (similar to Sal Frelick in the Majors) but shows enough lift and pull to pick up extra-base hits.

Durbin’s plus speed, combined with his baserunning acumen and aggression, is a major asset and fits well with the modern game. The Yankees got him time at second, third and shortstop and even some looks in center and left to give him room to roam. His arm is a touch light, making the keystone his best spot, but he profiles best as a utilityman that can help virtually everywhere.
