Though he signed as an infielder for $100,000 out of Dominican Republic in 2019, Castro had become an outfielder when he made his post-pandemic pro debut two years later. A switch-hitter who does a little of everything but lacks an above-average tool, he adopted a more aggressive approach in 2024. He slammed 15 homers, exceeding his total of 13 in his first three seasons, but also hit a career-low .229 and got overwhelmed by Double-A pitching following a mid-August promotion.
Castro has better bat-to-ball skills and more power from as a left-handed hitter, with 14 of his 15 homers coming from that side last summer. He makes good swing decisions and can work counts to draw walks, though he got too passive in Double-A. He hit the ball harder than ever in 2024, but he also struck out more frequently and still didn't pull balls in the air with much consistency.
Castro has average speed out of the batter's box, moves quicker once underway and shows good instincts on the bases and in the outfield. He plays a decent center field, though his range probably would fit best in Fenway Park's spacious right field, and his arm grades as an average. Boston declined to protect him on its 40-man roster in November, and his floor as a reserve outfielder stands out more than his ceiling as a regular.

Signed as an infielder for $100,000 out of the Dominican Republic in 2019, Castro was a full-time outfielder by the time he made his pandemic-delayed pro debut in 2021. He has advanced quickly, reaching High-A last July just two months after turning 20, and his name has begun to come up in trade talks. He steadily improved throughout last season before tiring in September.
A switch-hitter, Castro makes more consistent contact and drives the ball with more authority from the left side of the plate. One of the more disciplined young hitters in the system, he controls the strike zone and focuses on hitting pitches from gap to gap. While he homered just 13 times in 207 games over his first three pro seasons, he's significantly stronger than his listed 170 pounds and his exit velocities portend perhaps 20-homer power in his future.
An average runner out of the batter's box, Castro is quicker once he gets going and has good instincts on the bases and in the outfield. He covers enough ground to play an average center field but probably would fit better in Fenway Park's atypically spacious right field. His average arm works at all three outfield spots.

Castro turned pro for $100,000 out of the Dominican Republic in 2019, then lost a year to the pandemic before making his debut in 2021. He has advanced rapidly since then, reaching High-A this July after turning 20 two months earlier. Originally signed as an infielder, he has spent his entire career in the outfield.
A switch-hitter, Castro drives the ball better and does more damage from the left side of the plate. He controls the strike zone better than most Red Sox farmhands and makes regular contact with his hit-over-power approach. He needs to gain strength in order to hit the ball with more authority and currently projects to have 12-15 home run pop.
Castro has average speed and the instincts to steal an occasional base and cover ground in center field. He's an average defender who has seen action at all three outfield spots and probably will end up on a corner -- which will put more pressure on his bat and power. He has an average arm and makes accurate throws.
