Ramirez trained in the same program with Moises Ballesteros in Venezuela and both have stood out with their hitting ability since joining the Cubs in 2021. Signed for $75,000 compared to Ballesteros' $1.2 million, Ramirez has finished no worse than ninth in his league's batting race in four years as a pro and ranked third in the Midwest League last year at .284 despite being one of the High-A circuit's youngest regulars at age 20. He's still looking for a defensive home and a way to provide more impact at the plate.
A switch-hitter, Ramirez makes consistent contact from both sides but sees the ball better as a righty. He puts the bat on the ball almost too easily, because he'll go fishing out of the zone and make a lot of weak ground-ball contact while cutting into his walk totals. He has ordinary bat speed and has had increasing difficulty driving balls in the air as he has risen thought the Minors, so he may top out at 10-12 homers per season.
While Ramirez can flash well-above-average speed and tied for the MWL lead with seven triples, he plays as more of a solid runner and is still learning the nuances of basestealing. He's at least an average defender at second base with reliable hands and an average arm, but he saw more action at third base last year because of team needs. He lacks the arm and quick reactions for the hot corner, where he offers below-average glovework, and he also dabbled in left field.

Ramirez trained alongside Moises Ballesteros in Venezuela and both signed with the Cubs in 2021, with the latter getting $1.2 million while the former was a bargain at $75,000. Ramirez led the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League in hits (70) and total bases (98) while finishing third in batting (.359) during his pro debut later that year and hasn't stopped hitting. He ranked third in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League in slugging (.541) and OPS (.940) and fifth in hitting (.329) in his 2022 U.S. debut, then finished in the Carolina League top 10 in all three slash categories (.266/.358/.404) last year as one of the Single-A circuit's youngest regulars at age 19.
A switch-hitter with a quick, compact stroke from both sides, Ramirez has an advanced approach at the plate. He patiently works counts and makes line-drive contact to all fields. He isn't physical and doesn't hit the ball especially hard, but he understands his limitations and still could produce 10 to 15 homers annually once he adds some strength and turns on and lifts pitches in the air more often.
Ramirez features solid-to-plus speed and has the instincts and aggressiveness to steal a few bases. With solid range, sure and quick hands and an average arm, he's a fine defender at second base. He's more fringy at third, where the game speeds up on him and his arm is a bit stretched.

Chicago invested most of its 2021 international bonus pool in shortstop Cristian Hernandez ($3 million) and catcher Moises Ballesteros ($1.2 million) but also found a $75,000 steal in Ramirez, who trained with Ballesteros in Venezuela. He led the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League in hits (70) and total bases (98) while finishing third in batting (.359) during his 2021 pro debut. He came to the United States last year and continued to perform, ranking third in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League in slugging (.541) and OPS (.940) and fifth in hitting (.329) before a late promotion to Single-A at age 18.
A switch-hitter, Ramirez has a quick, compact stroke from both sides of the plate. He has advanced bat-to-ball skills for a teenager and focuses on making line-drive contact. He doesn't produce high exit velocities and presently puts the ball on ground a lot, but he could provide 12-15 homers on an annual basis once he gets stronger and learns to drive the ball in the air more often.
Ramirez has plus speed and likes to use it on the bases, where he's a threat to steal. He's a solid defender at second base with fine range, reliable hands and an average arm that looked a bit stretched when he also saw action at third base in 2022. The Cubs believe he's capable of playing shortstop, though he didn't last year while on the same ACL team with Hernandez.
