Barreto received the next-highest bonus behind Josuar Gonzalez in San Francisco's 2025 international crop, signing for $1,118,700 out of Venezuela. Though he received more attention for his shortstop play as an amateur, he slashed .322/.449/.394 in his pro debut in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. He also spent most of his time at second base in deference to Anthony Marquez.
A right-handed hitter, Barreto has advanced bat-to-ball skills. He makes good swing decisions though he can get overly pull-happy, resulting in too many rolled-over grounders. Though he only went deep once in his first 53 pro games, he packs some sneaky pop in his compact frame and could provide 15 or more homers per year if he improves his quality of contact.
An average runner with a thick lower half, Barreto could lose some quickness as he matures physically. He has the actions, hands and plus arm strength to play shortstop if he maintains his current quickness. The Giants will give him some time at short but project him as more of an offensive second or third baseman.
