Fajardo signed with the White Sox for $400,000 in February 2024 and has been a steady performer ever since, starting with his 26 percent K/BB rate in the Dominican Summer League that first season. The industry has taken notice as he’s been acquired in trades twice before his 20th birthday. The first came when he was moved to the Red Sox for the DFA’d Cam Booser in December 2024, and then one year later -- after climbing to Single-A in his first stateside season -- when he was traded to the Cardinals as part of the Willson Contreras deal.
After adding strength, the 6-foot-3 right-hander pushed his four-seamer and two-seamer up to the 93-95 mph range, touching 96, before his move to the Cardinals. A lack of standout movement made them easier to touch at Single-A, but the velocity trajectory is promising. For now because the fastballs don’t really pop, Fajardo has leaned heavily on his mid-80s slider. He’s able to wear out the low, gloveside area with that breaking ball, and it could be a future plus pitch. Fajardo also delivers plenty of whiffs with his 85-87 mph changeup with fading action, and he appropriately ran equal splits in '25 because of it.
Fajardo was pushed so aggressively by Boston because his control was more advanced than most 18-year-old pitchers (with many of them still pitching in American high schools). The chase on his secondaries helps him deliver strikes consistently, though that could be challenged when he reaches the Majors. There is an argument to be made for him as the headline of the return in the Contreras trade considering his ceiling as a potential No. 4 starter.

Fajardo landed the largest bonus among Venezuelan pitchers on the 2024 international market, signing with the White Sox for $400,000. He made his pro debut in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League, where he finished second in strikeout minus walk percentage (26 percent). After the Red Sox designated Cam Booser for assignment in December 2024, they shipped him to Chicago in exchange for Fajardo. Following an impressive first stateside season in which he quickly climbed to Single-A, Fajardo was moved again in December 2025, this time as part of the Cardinals’ return for first baseman Willson Contreras.
Fajardo continually has added strength and velocity since turning pro, and he now works at 93-95 mph while touching 96 with his two-seam fastball and 97 with his four-seamer. He has a tight slider that ranges from 82-85 mph, and Boston is working with him on adding a sweepier version as well. He also has picked up an upper-80s kick-changeup very quickly, giving him the potential for at least solid offerings across the board.
More advanced than most 18-year-old pitchers, Fajardo needed just six outings before earning a promotion to Single-A in 2025. He has thrown strikes throughout his pro career and commands his fastball well. He’s a potential mid-rotation starter and will be given plenty of runway to reach that ceiling in what is now his third system.
