If you’re a high-ceiling high school pitcher who hasn’t heard his name called in the top 10 rounds and think you’re headed to college, the Angels can always give you hope. On an almost annual basis, extra bonus pool money is available to take and sign some prep arms. In 2025, they targeted a pair of intriguing high school lefties, taking Talon Haley in the 12th round and Mitchell a round later. Rather than head to Texas, Mitchell signed for $872,500, heading down a baseball path despite coming from a football family that includes an uncle who quarterbacked in the Canadian Football League and a brother who was a wide receiver at Arizona.
After pitching for Team USA the summer before his senior year, Mitchell got off to a good start back at school but was shut down with shoulder fatigue after a month, so building up strength will be a key. He can sit 90-92 mph with his fastball, touching 94, and the fastball plays up because of deception in his delivery and carry up in the zone. He has a good feel to spin an upper-70s curve with depth that works well off of his heater. Like with a lot of high school pitchers, he hasn’t used a changeup much, but he’s shown glimpses of a decent cambio in the low-80s with fade and sink.
Mitchell is athletic on the mound, repeating his delivery well and filling up the strike zone. There’s room to add muscle to his 6-foot-3 frame, which could help all of his stuff tick up as he gets his pro career going.

Mitchell comes from a football family that includes an uncle (Keithen McCant) who quarterbacked in the Canadian Football League and an older brother (Richard Morrison) who played wide receiver at the University of Arizona. But Mitchell has been pointed toward a baseball future since he was a youngster and entered 2025 as one of the best high school left-handers in the Draft after pitching for the U.S. 18-and-under national team last summer. He performed well during the first month of his senior season and missed the rest of the spring with shoulder fatigue, but the Angels saw enough to use some leftover Tyler Bremner savings to sign him in the 13th round for $872,500.
Mitchell's fastball sits at 90-92 mph and tops out at 94, playing better than its velocity because he hides it well and it carries past barrels at the top of the strike zone. He displays fine aptitude for throwing an upper-70s curveball with depth that works well in tandem with the shape of his heater. He started dabbling with a low-80s changeup that fades and sinks, though he hasn’t used it much.
His ability to repeat his athletic three-quarters delivery allows Mitchell to provide consistent strikes. His slender 6-foot-3 frame has plenty of room to add muscle, which could add power to his fastball and curveball and make both of them plus offerings.

It's unclear how his shoulder woes will affect his Draft status, and he'll pitch at Texas if he attends college.
