Luis Morales was the key acquisition for the A’s when the 2023 international signing period opened, getting $3 million to sign. But he might not be the only arm signed that year to pay dividends. A month after inking Morales, they signed Sha for $375,000. He came straight to the United States to make his pro debut in the Arizona Complex League and got bumped up to full-season Stockton that summer. Sha spent all of 2024 with the Ports and kicked off the 2025 season there as well, but he looked to be figuring some things out over the first half of the year.
The 6-foot-2 right-hander has taken a big step forward in filling the zone and getting outs with as many as four pitches. Using a very low release point on his fastball that averages 92 mph and is up to 95 mph in 2025, Sha gets a lot of swing-and-miss on the pitch thanks to almost 17 inches of carry. He also throws a solid two-seamer with sink to give a different heater look. His best secondary offering is a slower slider just under 82 mph, but it has decent shape. His changeup is a work in progress.
While Sha’s stuff doesn’t jump off the page, his ability to command the stuff he does have along with his lower release allows him to miss more bats than expected. His ceiling might be limited to that of a back-end starter, but it looks like things are starting to click to get him there.
