The Orioles signed Martinez out of the Dominican Republic for $950,000 as a headliner of their 2024 international class, and he impressed with a solid debut in the Dominican Summer League, collecting 13 extra-base hits in 41 games as a 16-year-old. Martinez then made his way stateside and reached full-season ball by the end of his first full season in 2025, the Orioles challenging him more aggressively than is typical for teenage international signs. He had a tough go of it at Single-A Delmarva, but as a just-turned-18-year-old he was also extraordinarily young for the level.
Martinez shows better on-base ability and can hit the ball harder than most players his age. At 6-foot-4 and nearly 200 pounds, he’s strong and athletic and capable of producing 90th percentile exit velocities as high as 108 mph, which hint at a chance at plus raw power. Martinez generates similar hard-hit metrics as Samuel Basallo did at his age and can drive the ball to all fields. His bat-to-ball skills are less advanced, with swing-and-miss tendencies evident even before he was overmatched during his short stint with Delmarva. He’ll need to learn to recognize spin and understand the strike zone better to develop into an average hitter.
Martinez got reps at all three outfield spots in each of his first two seasons, but his size and fringy speed make him look more suited for a corner spot, where his plus arm would play. Martinez’s ability to impact the baseball gives him the chance to grow into a run-producer, but he will need to work to develop his all-around offensive profile.

The Orioles now have an established presence on the international amateur market, and at the beginning of the 2024 international period handed out six-figure bonuses to 16 players, including Martinez, an outfielder who signed for $950,000 as one of the headliners of that year’s crop. Martinez was ranked on MLB Pipeline’s Top 50 International Prospects list entering the period and then enjoyed a solid debut, collecting 13 extra-base hits during a stint in the Dominican Summer League played mostly as a 16-year-old.
Strong and athletic with a knack for hitting the ball hard, Martinez stands out particularly because of his raw power. He’s shown he is capable of producing uncommonly high exit velocities for a hitter his age, registering readings as hard as 108 mph off the bat during his pro debut. Those numbers are comparable to the type of pop Orioles top prospect Samuel Basallo exhibited as a young prospect, when he was a little-known teenager turning heads by lighting up the exit velo radars at the O’s training facilities. Martinez generates similar numbers and can already drive the ball to all fields, showing better feel for hitting to the opposite field than Basallo did at that age. It’s clear that Martinez’s 6-foot-4, almost 200-pound frame will be able to add more strength as he matures, but he’s also aggressive at the plate and will need to cut down on the swing-and-miss as he advances to develop into an average hitter.
Martinez played mostly center field in his debut and has an easily-plus arm. But he’s only an average runner, and though it's possible he could stick in center, the size and power potential make his ceiling look more like that of a run-producing corner outfielder given the chance he grows out of the position.

Now regular players on the international amateur market, the Orioles handed out 16 bonuses of six figures or more once the 2024 international signing period began. That group was headed by a pair of prospects ranked highly on MLB Pipeline’s Top 50 International Prospects list: Infielder Emilio Sanchez, who got $1.3 million to sign, and Martinez, an outfielder who received a bonus of $950,000 and got off to a very solid start during his Dominican Summer League debut.
Still just 16 years old when he made his debut, Martinez stands out particularly because of his raw power. He’s strong and athletic, and it’s clear his 6-foot-4, almost-200 pound frame will be able to add more strength easily as he matures. He’s aggressive at the plate, and there’s some swing-and-miss that will need to be toned down as he advances, but he also was making a lot of hard contact during his debut, with the chance for him to develop into an average hitter.
Martinez started his pro career in center field, and the Orioles think he has the chance to stick there, though he’s an average runner. If he grows out of the position, his easily plus arm, not to mention his run-producing potential, could look very good in right field.
