Patick stood out more with his projection than his present stuff when the Dodgers made him an 18th-round pick out of a suburban Los Angeles high school and signed him for an over-slot $347,500 in 2023. An illness requiring hospitalizing sidelined him for what would have been his first Spring Training and limited him to 31 2/3 innings in 2024, but he bounced back to successfully navigate Single-A last year. His 27 percent strikeout rate ranked third in the California League among pitchers who worked at least as many as his 85 1/3 innings.
Patick's fastball sits at 92-94 mph and touches 96 with more downhill plane than life, and he uses it to set up a wide variety of secondary pitches. His best offering is a mid-70s curveball with depth that confounds both lefties and righties but also makes it difficult to land for strikes. He also utilizes a low-80s slider with plenty of sweep that he can turn into a tighter cutter that climbs as high as 93 mph, as well as an 85-88 mph changeup with some fade.
Patick has good feel for spinning the ball and mixing his pitches. He creates deception by utilizing a big leg kick, rotating his upper half and throwing from a crossfire angle, and that doesn't stop him from throwing strikes. He has a ceiling of a mid-rotation starter and his ability to neutralize hitters from both sides with his breaking pitches could make him a useful bullpen piece.
