Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 60 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50

After growing up in Iowa, Gamble attended IMG Academy tennis and baseball camps in Florida during the summer. But his baseball talent stood out, and he was invited to come year-round for high school. Gamble evolved into a Draft prospect at IMG and played against premium competition before the Royals took him No. 23 overall in the 2025 Draft, signing him away from a Vanderbilt commitment with a $3,997,500 signing bonus. Gamble made his unofficial pro debut in 2025 playing in Bridge League games and then the instructional league at the club's complex in Arizona.

The Royals drafted Gamble as an athletic, toolsy hitter, but he showed up in the spring already taller, leaner and with more strength than what he had in the fall. His left-handed swing is smooth and direct, with good bat speed and a knack for finding the barrel. He’s finding more and more power as he gains strength, and he has a good understanding of the strike zone. Gamble is a plus runner with the instincts to be a basestealing threat, and that speed will help him in center field. He’s probably more natural in the outfield, but he’ll likely get reps in the infield this season too. Gamble has an above-average arm that helps him wherever he plays.

Evaluators rave about Gamble’s makeup as a competitor and leader. He should be headed for a full-season debut in 2026 at Single-A Columbia, and the Royals will take their time with his development. But they feel Gamble, as well as fellow top 2025 draftee Josh Hammond, are major reasons why the farm system has become more athletic recently.

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 60 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 50

An Iowa native, Gamble used to visit Florida during the summer with his family so he and his brother Beau could attend tennis -- and then baseball -- camps at IMG Academy. IMG's director of baseball recognized his talent and invited him to come year-round for high school, where he spent all four years. Over that time, Gamble got stronger and his game advanced as well, showing off very good skills against premium competition at various summer showcase events like the Area Code Games and USA Baseball's 18U National Team Camp. The Royals drafted him 23rd overall in July and signed him for above-slot at $3,997,500.

Gamble is a left-handed hitter with a smooth and repeatable swing with a knack for finding the barrel, controlling the zone and doing damage to all fields. As he's gaining strength, he's showing more raw power and should continue to leverage the ball and get to more extra-base authority as he moves along. He had quality at-bats last summer to raise his profile.

A plus runner, Gamble saw a lot of time in center field over the summer of 2024 and looked good there, with some evaluators leaning towards favoring him in the outfield, where his athleticism and arm strength play well. Some don't want to give up on him on the dirt, though, thinking he could be an above-average defender at second base and/or be given a shot at shortstop. The Royals announced Gamble as an outfielder on Draft Day but noted they like his range on the dirt as well, keeping open multiple avenues to him contributing up the middle.

The Vanderbilt recruit plays with a little edge to his game and reminds some of the Phillies' Bryson Stott.
