Ceballos went from the Puerto Rico high school scene to San Jacinto Junior College. In two years at San Jac, he hit .341 and got a late look from the Angels in Round 14 of the 2022 Draft. He headed to the University of Oregon instead of signing and has continued to hit well, though questions about his defensive profile have tempered excitement about his bat to a degree.
Most believe Ceballos can hit some, as he’s shown the ability to make a lot of contact for three years running. What has his proponents more excited is that his plate discipline has improved and he’s shown more ability to drive the ball the other way. He doesn’t miss many fastballs and his power has started to show up more as his approach has gotten better, especially to the pull side.
Where a team can put Ceballos’ bat remains in question. He doesn’t have terrible actions at third base and possesses at least an above-average arm. But as a well-below-average runner, most see a move to first in his future, although an adventurous team might want to try him out behind the plate. He saw some time there last summer in the Draft League, showing off that arm and some defensive feel, though there’s work to be done on his blocking and receiving.

One of the better prospects in Puerto Rico's 2020 high school class, Ceballos spent his first two college seasons at San Jacinto (Texas) JC. After turning down the Angels as a 14th-round pick in 2022, he transferred to Oregon and set school records for single-season homers (18), RBIs (70) and slugging (.643) the following spring before turning pro as a third-rounder with the Braves. The Giants acquired him in July as part of a package for Jorge Soler and Luke Jackson.
Though he's a physical 6-foot-3, 225-pounder with a quick right-handed swing, Ceballos is a hit-over-power guy. He does a reasonable job of managing the strike zone and making the contact, and he has the upside of a .275 hitter with 15-20 homers per year. He did a better job of driving the ball in the air after the trade, and San Francisco is eager to see if he can maintain that improvement in 2025.
Ceballos' best pure tool is his plus arm strength, which enables him to make all the necessary throws from third base. He's a well-below-average runner who lacks range and agility, however, and first base may be his only realistic alternative. Some scouts are intrigued by the idea of using his arm behind the plate, and he caught briefly in the MLB Draft League in 2022.

He headed to the University of Oregon instead of signing and continued to hit well, landing him in the third round with the Braves and signing a bit under slot, though questions about his defensive profile will have to be sorted out at the pro level.
Most scouts felt Ceballos could hit some, as he’d shown the ability to make a lot of contact for three years running. What had his proponents more excited was that his plate discipline improved and he showed more ability to drive the ball the other way, enabling him to finish with a 1.069 OPS in 2023. He doesn’t miss many fastballs and his power started to show up more as his approach got better, especially to the pull side.
Where a team can put Ceballos’ bat remains in question. He doesn’t have terrible actions at third base and possesses at least an above-average arm, and that’s where the Braves drafted him and sent him out to begin his pro career. But as a well-below-average runner, most see a move to first in his future. He did catch a little in the Draft League in 2022, showing off that arm and some defensive feel, providing an interesting option, though there’s work to be done on his blocking and receiving.
