Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 60 | Field: 55 | Overall: 45

Rutgers University in New Jersey has developed some good hitters -- albeit sporadically -- over the years, with Todd Frazier and David DeJesus the most recent and most successful. Lasko, a starter from the get-go for the Scarlet Knights in 2021, had a big sophomore season, and while his overall numbers over the summer at Team USA trials and in the Cape Cod League were modest, he finished strongly on the Cape and showed off some of the offensive traits that make him an intriguing college bat to follow.

A right-handed hitter, Lasko is strong and gives off a blue collar toughness vibe, while also showing off above-average athleticism. He has the chance to hit, and with plenty of raw power to tap into. His overall solid approach helped him get to that power last spring, as he hit 16 homers and slugged .643 for Rutgers. He struggled a bit more with making contact and recognizing pitches -- particularly spin -- over the summer, leaving some to worry about future swing-and-miss issues.

With above-average speed, Lasko runs well enough to steal a base and has a good chance to stick in center field. He also has a plus arm, which would fit in well with his power profile in an outfield corner if needed.

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 45 | Run: 55 | Arm: 60 | Field: 60 | Overall: 40

Rutgers University has developed some quality Major League hitters over the years such as Todd Frazier and David DeJesus. Lasko provided hope as the next in line for the program, hitting .314 with a .988 OPS over his three-year college career. That strong showing, along with showcase opportunities at the Team USA trials and in the Cape Cod League, led to the A’s selecting him in the second round of the 2023 Draft. His first full professional season last year brought mixed results. Overall, he combined to hit .232 with six home runs, 26 doubles, 47 RBIs and 33 stolen bases in 124 games between Single-A Stockton and High-A Lansing.

Despite the up-and-down numbers, Lasko showed good plate discipline, though there are some swing-and-miss and pitch recognition issues the A’s would like to see him correct, especially against pitches up in the zone. There was intrigue over his power potential coming out of college, but that has yet to truly translate to the pro ranks.

Lasko’s defense is clearly ahead of his offense right now as the standout trait of his game. He has a plus arm that allows him to cut down baserunners, and his good speed also allows him to cover plenty of ground in center field, giving him a real chance to stick at the position long-term. The A’s love the toughness and blue-collar nature of his playing style. How much he can improve his hit tool will likely determine what type of role might eventually await him at the highest level.

2024

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 45 | Run: 55 | Arm: 60 | Field: 60 | Overall: 40

Lasko was a standout hitter at Rutgers University, a school which has developed quality Major League bats such as Todd Frazier and David DeJesus over the years. After a strong three-year college career, mixed in with some time at the Team USA trials and Cape Cod League in ‘22, the A’s liked him enough to take him in the second round of the 2023 Draft, signing him under slot for a bonus of $1.7 million. His first full season of pro ball was up-and-down, but he showed off plate discipline, speed and defense that give him a pretty high floor.

Lasko gives off a blue-collar vibe for his toughness and plays the game hard. He also is an above-average athlete who brings an intriguing power-speed combo, though the pop has yet to show up in his brief pro career. His overall approach is solid and helped him hit .330 with 11 homers as a junior. While he drew a ton of walks in his first season with the A’s, concerns about swing-and-miss issues linger, as he has struggled some with pitch recognition, particularly ones with spin.

Lasko runs well with speed that translates to the ability to steal bags. That speed is also an element of his elite defense. He has every chance to play center field long-term, with a plus arm that has already cut down baserunners, though he’s shown the ability to handle all three outfield spots well, important in case he doesn’t hit enough to be a regular in one spot.

2023

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 55 | Arm: 60 | Field: 55 | Overall: 45

It was enough for the A’s to take him in the second round of the 2023 Draft and sign him for an under-slot bonus of $1.7 million.

A right-handed hitter, Lasko is strong and gives off a blue-collar toughness vibe, while also showing off above-average athleticism. He has the chance to hit, with plenty of raw power to tap into. His overall solid approach helped him get to that power as a sophomore, as he lofted 16 homers and slugged .643 for Rutgers, though that slipped to 11 and .542 this past spring.
