Though Harber hit 54 homers in 206 college games between Georgia and North Carolina, he went undrafted before signing with the Yankees for $50,000 in July 2024. Though a wrist injury sidelined him for six weeks midseason, he still slashed .323/.420/.550 between two levels and ranked second in the Minors (miminum: 300 plate appearances) with a 173 wRC+. Sent to the Giants as part of a Trade Deadline deal for Camilo Doval, he terrorized the Arizona Fall League and led the developmental circuit with 12 extra-base hits in 17 games.
A right-handed hitter, Harber generates high-end exit velocities and can drive balls out of the park from foul pole to foul pole. He doesn't pull or lift pitches consistently, however, so there's some question about how much his power will play at higher levels. He shows the patience to work counts and draw walks, though he does swing through some in-zone fastballs and struggles against sliders.
While Harber has worked hard to improve his all-around game, almost all of his value will be derived from his bat. He's a limited athlete with well-below-average speed and average arm strength, which will make it tough for him to remain at third base. He has spent nearly as much time at first, a more viable option, while his lack of range makes the outfield corners a stretch.
Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 30 | Arm: 50 | Field: 40 | Overall: 40
Harber slammed 54 home runs in 206 college games at Georgia and North Carolina but went undrafted before signing with the Yankees as a free agent for $50,000 in July 2024. He ranked second in the Minors this season (minimum: 300 plate appearances) with a 173 wRC+, joining the Giants in a Trade Deadline deal for Camilo Doval. He continued to rake in the offseason as one of the top performers in the Arizona Fall League.
Power is Harber's carrying tool. He produces upper-echelon exit velocities from the right side of plate and shows the ability to drive the ball out of the park from foul pole to foul pole, giving him 25-homer potential. He has the patience to draw walks but also has some strikeout tendencies and struggles against sliders.
Though he works hard on his all-around game, most of Harber's value will come from his bat. He has limited athleticism, well-below-average speed and average arm strength. He has split time between third base and first base in college and as a pro, and he's more likely to wind up at the latter position.
