Scouting Report

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 40 | Power: 50 | Run: 65 | Arm: 45 | Field: 60 | Overall: 45

Taylor overcame surgery to remove a cancerous kidney at age 5 to become a multisport star as a Florida high schooler, receiving college basketball offers but turning them down to play baseball at Polk State (Fla.) CC. He helped Bourne win the Cape Cod League championship during a late-summer cameo in 2022 before hitting .353/.467/.620 and topping Florida juco players with 31 steals in 48 games as a sophomore the next spring. He gave up a Florida State commitment to sign for an over-slot $300,000 bonus in 2023, then won Red Sox Minor League defensive player of the year accolades in his first full pro season.

Boston has helped Taylor improve his bat speed and strength since he turned pro, and his explosive left-handed swing generates high exit velocities. His pull-heavy mindset and uphill stroke allow him to turn on pitches and drive them in the air, contributing to his solid raw power. He makes good swing decisions but has a lot going on with his stroke and needs to improve his in-zone contact, especially against non-fastballs.

If Taylor hits, he has the tools to be a star. He has well-above-average speed and is aggressive on the basepaths, giving him 25-25 upside. He's a no-doubt center fielder with the quickness instincts to run down most flyballs and his fringy to average arm strength is more than playable.

2024

Scouting grades: Hit: 40 | Power: 50 | Run: 65 | Arm: 40 | Field: 60 | Overall: 40

Taylor had college basketball offers as a Florida high schooler but opted instead to play baseball at Polk State (Fla.) CC. He helped Bourne win the Cape Cod League championship in a late-summer cameo in 2022, then slashed .353/.467/.620 and led all Florida JUCO players with 31 steals in 48 games as a sophomore. Signed away from a Florida State commitment for an over-slot $300,000 bonus in 2023, he won Red Sox Minor League Defensive Player of the Year honors in his first full pro season.

Taylor will need time to develop at the plate, but his bat speed, strength, solid raw power and well-above-average speed give him plenty of offensive upside. He shows the patience to work counts and draw walks while generating impressive exit velocities. He'll need to tone down his uphill left-handed swing and pull-heavy approach but could provide 20-25 homers annually if he can add some polish.

With his quickness and aggressive nature on the basepaths, Taylor is a prime threat to steal. His speed and instincts also enable him to cover ground easily from gap to gap in center field, where he's a plus defender. His arm is below average but playable.
