Nankil was a seventh-round selection by the A’s out of Cal State Fullerton in the 2023 MLB Draft as part of a class headlined by No. 6 overall pick Jacob Wilson. After a strong first full professional season, he began 2025 at High-A Lansing and ended with Double-A Midland, combining to hit .278 with a .724 OPS in 124 games.
Nankil’s overall approach at the plate is solid, having shown a good ability to draw walks and limit the strikeout totals at a decent rate. His raw power excited the A’s when he entered the organization, but that aspect of his game has yet to fully show through. While he does hit the ball hard, he tends to hit the ball on the ground too often. He also has some trouble picking up on offspeed pitches at times.
Nankil is an average defender who can cover a decent amount of range in the outfield with his athleticism, while also bringing a strong arm. He ideally profiles as a corner outfielder, but he will have to hit for more power to continue progressing through the system. The A’s believe he has at least 20-homer power potential, and they plan to work with him on getting the ball in the air more to try to unlock some more of that pop.

A seventh-round selection out of Cal State Fullerton in the 2023 MLB Draft, Nankil might have been the top performer from that A’s ‘23 Draft class outside of Jacob Wilson. Nankil began the 2024 campaign at Single-A Stockton, where he posted a .285/.401/.460 slash line with 10 home runs, 20 doubles and 56 RBIs in his first 83 games. That strong start earned him a promotion to High-A Lansing, where the numbers only improved as he slashed .356/.414/.452 in 28 games. Between the two levels as a 21-year-old, Nankil combined to hit .304 with 39 extra-base hits and 70 RBIs in 112 games.
Nankil brings a solid overall approach to the batter’s box. His selectivity at the plate allows him to draw a fair amount of walks while keeping the strikeout totals at a decent rate. He has a knack for putting the barrel on the baseball with good raw power, and the A’s see 20-homer potential, especially after he showed up to Spring Training looking noticeably stronger with his 6-foot-2 frame than he did last season. He does struggle some recognizing offspeed pitches, particularly changeups.
While not a speedy runner, Nankil covers a decent amount of range in the outfield with his athleticism. He also brings a strong arm and has shown capable of playing all three outfield spots, though he likely profiles as a corner outfielder at the highest level. After making a solid first impression over his first full professional season, Nankil is in line for a nice bump through the system if he can keep the early success up.
