Part of a Chicago-area pipeline that has served Louisville well, Prosecky was the second-best Illinois prep prospect in 2019 behind Pirates first-rounder Quinn Priester. A top-five-rounds talent who turned down the Phillies after signability dropped him to the 35th round, he was a midweek starter in his first college season but missed most of 2021 with a shoulder strain. He has served as Louisville's closer this spring but may get an opportunity to start in pro ball. 

Prosecky has more velocity than most left-handers, operating with a 92-95 mph fastball that tops out at 97 with some riding action. He works heavily off his heater, backing it up with a mid-70s curveball that can get swings and misses but also eludes the strike zone too frequently. He also has a firm mid-80s changeup with modest life but doesn't use it much as a reliever. 

With the potential for three average or better offerings, a strong 6-foot-3 frame and a delivery with no glaring flaws, Prosecky may tempt a pro team to try him as a starter. To succeed in the rotation, he'll have to use his secondary pitches and significantly improve his control. It's more likely that he'll wind up in the bullpen, where his role will depend on his ability to locate his fastball and curve.

Big left-handed starters aren’t exactly easy to find, so sometimes a team has to go a more unusual route to find one. Case in point is Prosecky, who went to Louisville with the intent to be in their rotation, but the pandemic limited that in 2020 and injuries sidelined him for most of '21. He threw relatively well as the Cardinals’ closer in 2022 and the Rockies took him in the sixth round of that summer’s Draft, then almost immediately converted him back into a starting role. The early returns were good as he led the Single-A California League in ERA (2.72), opponents' average against (.217) and strikeouts (125) in his first year of pro ball.

The 6-foot-3 left-hander has a potential four-pitch mix that could work in a rotation. He throws his fastball with late life in the 91-96 mph range, showing the ability to move it around the zone well. His slider has late action with depth and could eventually evolve into a solid out pitch and he throws a slower curve that’s more of a show-me, get-me-over type of offering. He has feel for a changeup and the Rockies are urging him to throw it more.

Considering how little Prosecky threw in college -- a grand total of 64 innings in three years -- he held up well over the course of a season and managed to surpass the century mark in innings pitched with plenty left in the tank while throwing better late in the year. He’s a solid strike-thrower who can finish hitters off late in counts who could stick in a rotation long-term if it clicks.

Prosecky boosted his profile by topping out at 93 mph at the World Wood Bat Association World Championship last October, and he has continued to perform well against top competition this spring. He limited Marist High (Chicago) and Jason Hodges, the best position prospect among Illinois high schoolers, to one run in five innings in a Wrigley Field showdown in late April. Though Louisville does a good job of holding onto its Chicago-area recruits, his projectability could entice a pro team to buy him away from college.

Prosecky works at 89-93 mph with his fastball, compensating for modest life by using his 6-foot-4 frame and high-three-quarters arm slot to create angle and plane. He has plenty of room to add strength and could start reaching the mid-90s regularly once he fills out. He has advanced feel for a changeup, selling it with deceptive arm speed and achieving some fade.

After flashing a solid slider on the showcase circuit, Prosecky has seen it become more fringy this spring and has lost some trust in his breaking ball. He has an easy delivery and repeats it well, allowing him to work both sides of the plate. He's reminiscent of Mark Buehrle in the way he works faster than most pitchers while pounding the strike zone.
