German signed for $400,000 last year out of the Dominican Republic, giving him the joint fourth-highest bonus of Washington’s 2025 international class but well behind the seven-figure deals for Brayan Cortesia ($1.92 million) and Daniel Hernandez ($1.1 million). Only year later, the switch-hitting infielder has surged in stock to become the best prospect of the group at this very early stage of his career. German was a Dominican Summer League mid- and post-season All-Star with a .283/.479/.513 line, eight homers and 33 steals in 53 games.
While many of his age can be undisciplined at the plate, German showed an advanced approach from both sides of the plate, leading to a 42/43 K/BB ratio. He shows better ability to slug from the left side to this point -- all eight of his dingers came against righty pitchers – but that might also speak to his lack of gametime against southpaws (only 49 plate appearances in 2025). German stands only 5-foot-10, but what he lacks in stature, he makes up for in his early tendency to lift and pull the ball, helping the pop show in games.
By getting on base so much, German gives himself plenty of chances to steal bags, and he certainly took advantage by showing off his above-average wheels in the DSL. That athleticism has helped him stay up the middle on the dirt to this point, and he has the arm strength to make that a defensive asset as well. Nationals instructors have been impressed by his teenage work ethic and aptitude with the glove early on, and he should be a priority middle infielder at the Florida complex when he arrives stateside this spring.

The Nationals scored a pair of seven-figure signings in this year’s international class in infielder Brayan Cortesia ($1.92 million) and catcher Daniel Hernandez ($1.1 million), both out of Venezuela. German, by comparison, went much more under the radar when he signed for $400,000 out of the Dominican Republic. But the switch-hitting middle infielder burst out of the gate as one of the Dominican Summer League’s best performers in 2025 and earned DSL All-Star honors for his resume quickly into his pro career.
German is a switch-hitter who has shown an impressive approach from both sides in his age-17 season, regularly walking more than he’s struck out. The Nationals have subsequently used him primarily out of the DSL club’s leadoff spot, given his proclivity to get on base. German only checks in at 5-foot-10 right now, but he’s shown surprising power for his frame early on. His best slugging side is the left, with each of his first seven homers coming against righties. The pop is likelier to play in the gaps at higher levels, but this summer has been an encouraging first step in his slugging development.
With above-average wheels, German has been an early threat to steal bags, and that athleticism comes in handy as he’s moved between shortstop and second base, giving him looks at two valuable up-the-middle spots. He has enough arm to make throws from deep in the hole at short and could earn more priority time there if his bat continues to hold up.
