Scouting Report

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 50 | Run: 45 | Arm: 50 | Field: 45 | Overall: 50

Adams was just a 12th-round pick out of Hinsdale (Ill.) Central High School in 2022 but signed for sixth-round money at $282,500. He put himself on the map with a strong first full season for Single-A Carolina, winning Carolina League All-Star honors with a .233/.400/.401 line, 11 homers and 30 steals in 99 games. Playing in his age-20 season last year, Adams put up remarkably similar numbers (.227/.443/.397, 11 HR, 28 SB) in 101 games with High-A Wisconsin and helped push the Timber Rattlers to an appearance in the Midwest League Championship Series.

Standing at 6-foot-4, the right-handed slugger makes for a sight in the box with high hands and an interesting leg kick that leads into an extended front side. There is good raw power in Adams’ frame, but he doesn’t play as well into it yet because of high groundball and infield popup rates. The Brewers hope to add more verticality to his swing to get the elevation needed for better pop. But for now, Adams can still scare pitchers away from pitching in the zone (or in some cases into him with an astounding 40 hit-by-pitches in ’24), and while he can be too passive early in counts, that approach has worked to his benefit to this point.

Adams has been willing to push the envelope on the basepaths but will likely settle into below-average speed as he matures. He can make it work at third base despite rough actions at times, but he's made the move to first base in 2025. The power and aggression will have to come around more, even as he comfortably clears the offensive standard for every league he's played in.

Adams was one of the Brewers’ biggest popup prospects in 2023. Drafted out of Hinsdale (Ill.) Central High School in 2022, the infielder signed for the equivalent of sixth-round money with a $282,500 bonus and proved why he was worth it at Single-A Carolina in his first full season. Adams produced a 135 wRC+ over 99 games with the Mudcats -- third-best in the Milwaukee system among Minor Leaguers with at least 400 plate appearances -- while slashing .233/.400/.401 with 11 homers and 30 stolen bases.

The right-handed slugger’s at-bats can be a sideshow before he even takes a swing. Standing in at 6-foot-4, he lifts his left leg high during the delivery and extends the foot out straight before stomping down, generating the kinetic energy needed to play into his plus raw power. All the movement also helps with elevation on contact; many of his batted balls (42.2 percent) were fly balls in the Carolina League. Despite all the movement, he’s kept the strikeouts relatively in check in pro ball, and his walk rate continues to pop off the page at every stop he's made, the result of an approach that continues to impress Brewers officials.

A below-average runner, Adams was still super aggressive on the basepaths in his first full season and registered a 75 percent success rate. He might continue to slow down as he matures, and while he can make some plays at third base, his lack of range might fit better at first or in left field, where he got some looks in 2023. Tapping into the power will remain the key to Adams’ success in 2024 and beyond.

2023

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 40 | Arm: 50 | Field: 40 | Overall: 40

The Brewers stayed in the Midwest for their 12th-round pick in 2022, taking Adams out of Hinsdale (Ill.) Central High School and signing him away from a Michigan State commitment with a $282,500 bonus -- the equivalent of sixth-round money. The right-handed slugger made a loud debut in the Arizona Complex League, going 12-for-32 (.375) with four extra-base hits in 11 games. He kept things moving with Single-A Carolina this summer, posting OBPs and slugging numbers in his first taste of full-season ball.

Anyone who followed the development of Joey Wiemer might do a double take when they see Adams’ approach at the plate. Standing in the box at 6-foot-4 (one inch short of Wiemer), Adams also employs a large leg kick that borders at times on a downright karate chop. That can help him play into his plus raw power, lifting the ball on contact with a fly-ball rate north of 40 percent. It can also cause concerns about timing, and while he hasn’t piled up strikeouts just yet, those could come against more experienced arms. Wiemer transitioned to a toe tap as he got closer to Milwaukee, and there’s a chance Adams will have to make a similar adjustment.

The 19-year-old has shown a knack for stealing bases with Carolina, but he’s a below-average runner who could slow down as he matures. A third baseman for now, he’s received looks at first and left field and will likely be better fits at either spot.
