The Phoenix-born De La Torre grew up in Mexico before attending high school in Utah and showcasing himself to big league teams in the Dominican Republic. Signed for $10,000 in July 2023, De La Torre spent two seasons in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League before making his U.S. debut last year. He was leading the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League with 62 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings when he was promoted in early July to Single-A, where he logged a 1.77 ERA in seven starts before starring in the playoffs as San Jose won the California League title.

De La Torre's 94-96 mph fastball touches 98 and explodes on hitters because the extension and low release height in his delivery create plenty of carry. His heater generated a 32 percent swing-and-miss rate at Single-A; to put that in perspective, big league left-handers Aroldis Chapman and Brendon Little posted identical marks in 2025. He backs it up with a mid-80s slider that can be a plus pitch with big sweep at its best.

De La Torre operates mainly with two pitches and has yet to show much faith in his fading mid-80s changeup. He compensates for a lack of physicality with some of the best athleticism in the system, getting down the mound very well and filling the strike zone. If he's as good as he looked last year, he could be a mid-rotation starter and climb quickly through the Minors.

Both de la Torre's fastball and slider can be plus pitches at their best. His four-seam heater sits at 94-96 mph and touches 98, while his mid-80s slider has nasty sweep when it's on. He doesn't have much trust in his mid-80s changeup, which is very much a work in progress.

While he's not very physical at 6 feet and 188 pounds, de la Torre features some of the best athleticism in the Giants system. He moves down the mound very well, creating plenty of extension and a low release height that make it difficult for hitters to pick up his pitches. There's some reliever risk because of his size, but his ability to throw strikes helps his cause as a starter.
