Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 40 | Control: 45 | Overall: 40
A native of Quebec, Langevin spent his first two college seasons at Wabash Valley (Ill.) CC and helped lead the Warriors to the finals of the 2023 Junior College World Series. He won Sun Belt Conference pitcher of the year honors after transferring to Louisiana-Lafayette in 2024 and finished third in NCAA Division I in strikeout rate (15.2 per nine innings). His fastball metrics were outstanding, as he ranked second in both overall (45 percent) and in-zone (42 percent) whiff rate.
Langevin's heater is nothing special in terms of velocity, sitting at 92-95 mph and maxing out at 97, but everything else about it makes it a weapon. He generates high spin rates from a low slot, producing plenty of ride and run from a flat approach angle. He employs his fastball about 80 percent of the time, mixing in a sweeping low-80s slider and a fading mid-80s changeup.
While Langevin has had some success as a college starter, he has been primarily a reliever and likely will continue in that role in pro ball. His delivery is more conducive to bullpen work, and he doesn't consistently land his slider and changeup for strikes, reducing their effectiveness. He'll need to refine his slider to keep hitters from sitting on his fastball at the next level.

Langevin moved from Quebec to the United States for college when he headed to Wabash Valley (Ill.) Community College for two years, transferring to Louisiana-Lafayette after that for his junior spring. He struck out 39.1 percent of his batters faced while posting a 3.73 ERA in 23 appearances (62 2/3 innings) in his one season with the Ragin’ Cajuns in 2024, and that’s all it took to make him an intriguing Draft prospect, with the Royals taking him in the fourth round that July. A lat strain limited him to 14 appearances with High-A Quad Cities in ’25, though he made six more in the Arizona Fall League, and he’s returned to the River Bandits for his age-22 campaign this summer.
Langevin’s fastball remains the star of the show and one of the most intriguing in the Minors. Its combination of high spin rates and both ride and run -- all from a low three-quarters release -- make it a monster for opposing hitters to face, even when it’s mostly sitting 93-96 mph (occasionally touching 98). As of mid-August, High-A hitters were whiffing on 47.2 percent of their swings against the heater. Langevin also has an 85-87 mph slider as a breaking option but only uses it one quarter of the time for a different look.
Beyond the lat injury, throwing consistent strikes with all of that movement has been Langevin’s biggest issue since he landed in pro ball. It’s a difficult balance because the fastball shape is so good that you wouldn’t want to alter it and lose effectiveness for a few ticks of improved control, but walking around 20 percent of batters faced won’t work at the top level. There’s still enticing upside as a high-leverage, high-whiff arm if he can get the control to even 40-level.

A Quebec native, Langevin came to the United States for college ball at Wabash Valley (Ill.) Community College before transferring to Louisiana-Lafayette his junior year. He struck out the world there, maintaining a nearly 40 percent strikeout rate. The metrics on his fastball in particular were part of the reason the Royals took Langevin in the fourth round of the 2024 Draft, signing him for $597,500.
It’s no secret that Langevin’s fastball is what makes him stand out. It’s a unique pitch that has baffled hitters so far, although not because of velocity -- it sits 92-96 mph. The pitch has extremely high spin rates and features plenty of ride and run from a lower vertical approach angle. Langevin’s deceptive delivery definitely helps the pitch play up too, as does his quick arm. His secondaries are fringe average at best, as he didn’t really need or use them in college, so that will be a focus for him in his first pro season. The slider has some sweeping action to it, but it varies in speed and he needs to work on landing it in the zone. He has a feel for a changeup but needs to develop it more.
If it translates to results in pro ball, Langevin’s fastball could dominate, and he could move quickly as a reliever. Officials love his makeup and fiery competitiveness on the mound. He’s a one-trick pitcher right now, though, and needs to improve his secondaries and control to reach his ceiling as a potential back-end bullpen arm. Langevin will likely begin his pro career at High-A in 2025.
