Henley was an extremely raw, extremely speedy outfielder from the Georgia prep ranks who looked like he might be headed to Georgia Tech to develop in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Reds had some bonus pool money left over in 2023 and went way over the $150,000 pick value for Day 3 selections by signing him for $395,000 in Round 14. He barely got his feet wet after signing and was showing off some of his impressive tools back in the Arizona Complex League in 2024.
A 6-foot-2 right-handed-hitting outfielder, Henley’s carrying tools are his speed and his defense. He has close to top-of-the-scale speed and showed that catchers at the Rookie level had no chance to throw him out when he attempted to steal. His wheels also help him cover a ton of ground in center field, where he has every chance to play for a very long time, with excellent range, good instincts and an average arm.
While he has a long way to go with the bat, Henley has already made huge strides offensively and the Reds think he could be an average hitter in time, though he’ll have to cut down on his swing-and-miss to get there. He has an up arrow next to his name, and if the gains he made this year continue, he has a very high ceiling.
