Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Run: 40 | Arm: 60 | Field: 45 | Overall: 45

Roki Sasaki was the center of attention during the 2025 international signing period, and while the Blue Jays were in the running for the Japanese right-hander, they fell short to the Dodgers. Instead, Cristopher Polanco came in with the highest bonus at $2,297,500, but it’s another Dominican Republic infielder in Sanchez, a $997,500 signee, who has become the talk of the class. Sanchez was named a mid- and post-season All-Star in the Dominican Summer League after posting a .341/.439/.565 line with eight homers and 28 total extra-base hits across 56 games. Of the 304 DSL qualifiers, he was one of only seven with an ISO above .220 (.224) and a strikeout rate below 18 percent (17.4).

Heading into his age-18 season, Sanchez already has plenty of size at 6-foot-3, but his plus power grades don’t come from physical projection alone. He’s already brought actualized pop into his game with loud contact in the DSL, and he combines his present strength with a balanced right-handed swing. He impressed Blue Jays officials with the way he reacted to being pitched around once the word got out on his ability, and that baseline of swing decisions should serve him well, if he can maintain it stateside.

Sanchez will likely be a below-average runner at full maturity, and the Blue Jays have already given him the lion’s share of work at third base because of the amount of young talents they needed to get shortstop reps in the DR. While he’ll still work in time at the six, he’s a better fit at the hot corner, and his arm strength will work there. Sanchez’s early overall traits have already pushed him into prominence on the Toronto infield depth chart, and he’s a decent bet to see full-season ball before his 19th birthday.

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 50 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

Toronto was long in the running for Roki Sasaki as the headliner of the 2025 international class, but when it lost out on the Japanese right-hander, it inked two prominent shortstops from the Dominican Republic instead. Cristopher Polanco came in with the highest bonus at $2,297,500. Sanchez ranked second at $997,500 as the only other Blue Jays addition above $800,000. Playing in his age-17 season, Sanchez already has Dominican Summer League All-Star and Player of the Week honors on his resume following a quick transition to pro ball.

A right-handed slugger, Sanchez already stands at 6-foot-3, and that size gave the Jays plenty to dream on when it came to his power production. He’s gotten to it early with a slugging percentage above .500, but it hasn’t come at the cost of contact, at least at this stage. Sanchez doesn’t have a noisy load in his swing, leaving his strength to do the talking while he doesn’t overcomplicate matters. There’s always the potential he could run into swing-and-miss problems against better velocity and pitching, but early returns are solid.

Sanchez certainly has the arm for the left side of the infield, and he’s split his time between third base and shortstop down in the DR. His size might make him a better full-time fit at the hot corner down the road, especially if he and Polanco bump into each other at higher levels (they were on separate DSL teams in 2025). All the same, Sanchez has only built on an intriguing profile with solid performance as a professional.
