The grandson of 1971 Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback Patrick Sullivan, Joseph spent time as a safety and wide receiver in high school before realizing his future was in baseball. He posted an unspectacular .271/.436/.528 batting line in three seasons at South Alabama and went undrafted as a sophomore-eligible in 2023, but the Astros liked his all-around ability enough to pick him in the seventh round the following July. He reached Double-A while slashing .244/.368/.403 with 44 extra-bases hits and 27 steals in 116 games during his first full pro season.
Sullivan has some of the best on-base ability among Houston prospects, regularly making good swing decisions from the left side of the plate and ranking 10th in the Minors in walk rate (18 percent) while also getting hit by 20 pitches in 2025. He may not hit for a high average because he doesn't make consistent contact against non-fastballs, and his struggles against left-handers could relegate him to platoon duty. He does have the bat speed and strength for at least average power if he can cut down his strikeouts and elevate more pitches.
Sullivan possesses solid speed and an aggressive nature on the basepaths, swiping 42 bags in 51 attempts (82 percent) last year. Solely a left fielder at Alabama, he has played primarily center in pro ball and is an average defender there with arm strength to match. He plays with constant energy, and the Astros love his makeup.

The grandson of 1971 Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback Patrick Sullivan, Joseph played safety and wide receiver in high school before deciding to focus on baseball. He batted a modest .271/.436/.528 in three seasons at South Alabama, went undrafted as a sophomore-eligible in 2023 and was hampered by a right hamate injury last spring before signing with the Astros as a seventh-rounder. After he showed all-around ability during his pro debut, his name repeatedly came up in trade talks.
Sullivan makes good swing decisions from the left side of the plate and enhances his on-base ability by drawing walks and getting hit by more than his share of pitches. He has the bat-to-ball skills along with the bat speed and strength to become an average hitter with power to match if he can refine his approach at the plate. He tends to pull a lot of balls on the ground and can be more selective about which strikes he puts into play.
Sullivan is aggressive with his plus speed and looks to steal and take extra bases. Though he played mostly left field at South Alabama in deference to Red Sox seventh-rounder Will Turner, he's a legitimate center fielder with an average arm. Besides his skills, he earns praise for his constant energy and strong makeup.
