Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 40 | Run: 40 | Arm: 50 | Field: 45 | Overall: 40

Mejia was the Orioles’ fourth-highest international signee in 2023 when he joined the organization for $407,500 that January out of the Dominican Republic. He played two years in the Dominican Summer League, getting only 10 games in that first pro season, and came stateside in 2025, hitting .274/.418/.411 with two homers and a 16/26 K/BB ratio in 47 games in the Florida Complex League. The O’s traded him to the D-backs last offseason as part of the Blaze Alexander deal, and Mejía has continued to build on his hit-first profile between Single-A Visalia and High-A Hillsboro during his first year in the Arizona system.

Mejía bats from an open right-handed stance before swinging his front leg through the box to close it and land on time. He’s been a choosy swinger early in his career, often not expanding the zone, and that’s held at both spots in ’26. His in-zone contact rate has been tremendous in his age-20 season, sitting around the low 90s as of early August, and he rarely misses fastballs. While his power has improved this year, there still isn’t big pop however in his 5-foot-11 frame, and it will take further strength gains for him to be a double-digit homer possibility.

Announced as a shortstop when he signed, Mejía hasn’t played the position as a pro and instead has seen time at all three other spots on the dirt as well as the outfield corners. He’s mostly switched between second and third base in 2026 (with some left field sprinkled in), and while he can make many throws on a line, the majority of his value is likely to come with the bat as a possible contact-heavy utilityman.
