Castro signed out of the Dominican Republic for $450,000 in 2024 with a prototypical slugging corner outfield profile, and he's beginning to fulfill that potential after a second stint in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. After struggling to make contact as a 17-year-old, he became one of the most productive players on the circuit in 2025 with a single-season-record 16 homers (six more than any other player last year) and a .264/.399/.585 slash line.
At 6-foot-3, Castro was already larger than most Rookie-ball players, but his power began to show up in games after he added 20 pounds in the past year. The right-handed slugger has plenty of raw strength and bat speed -- with further room to fill out his frame -- and his pull-happy approach plays up the game power even more. Swing-decision issues that plagued his debut season have lessened but remain, and refining his approach to key in on hittable pitches in the zone should enable him to tap into his team-best exit velocities more consistently.
Castro is fairly athletic for his size but has not been an efficient basestealer. Defensively, he stands out most for his strong arm, which fits well in right field and could get even stronger as he adds weight. He's occasionally played in center but is a better fit for a corner long term. Castro is an organizational favorite and gets high marks for his makeup.
