If it weren’t for injuries, Spikerman would have had three years of full-time starting on his Oklahoma transcript. He still left his mark, coming back from missing two months as a freshman to help the Sooners make the 2022 College World Series finals. After an up-and-down sophomore season that ended well, he was having a terrific 2024 campaign early until he broke his right hamate bone in March. He did make it back and landed with the Phillies as their third-round pick before making a brief debut with Single-A Clearwater.

A switch-hitter, Spikerman is going to run his way up the organizational ladder. He has close to top-of-the-scale speed that he uses on both sides of the ball, stealing a ton of bases and beating out a lot of groundballs for hits on the offensive end of things. He cut down the swing-and-miss in his game considerably as a junior while continuing to draw walks and while he’s never shown much power, there is some strength and bat speed to feed hope he’ll have enough impact as he faces better pitching. 

Spikerman’s speed helps him cover a lot of grass and he should be able to patrol center field for a long time. He’s a plus defender in all three outfield spots, should he need to find a fourth-outfielder role, with a very strong arm that is playable from anywhere.

He slumped throughout the first half of 2023 before finishing strong, then was enjoying the best season of his career when he broke the hamate bone in his right hand in mid-March. He returned as a pinch-runner a month later and rejoined the lineup in May, showing enough for him to land in the third round of the 2024 Draft to the Phillies, signing for a below-slot $672,500.

Spikerman's double-plus speed is the key to his game. He makes a lot of ground-ball contact, using his quickness to beat out hits, and he's a prolific and successful basestealer. He also covers plenty of ground in center field and leaves no doubt that he can remain there at the next level.

In his first two seasons, the switch-hitting Spikerman struck out too much for a player trying to serve as a catalyst, but he made more consistent contact this spring. He never has displayed much power, though some scouts think he has enough strength and bat speed to produce 10-12 homers per season if he opens up his approach. A shortstop in high school, he has at least average arm strength and could see some action as a middle infielder in a utility role as a pro, though he was announced as an outfielder when he was selected.
