Scouting Report

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 45 | Arm: 50 | Field: 45 | Overall: 40

After signing with the Dodgers for $397,500 out of the Dominican Republic in 2022, Perez tied for the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League with 11 homers while making his U.S. debut the following summer. He finished that season in Single-A at age 18 and returned there last year to hit .262/.370/.423 with 12 homers in 105 games. His production was similar before and after he joined the White Sox in a three-team trade in July that shipped Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham to the Cardinals and Michael Kopech to Los Angeles.

Perez's lightning-quick hands produce some of the best bat speed in the system and allow him to make harder contact than most players his age. A right-handed hitter, he's not afraid to turn his swing lose but controls the strike zone reasonably well. He already displays the ability to launch balls in the air to his pull side and could grow into 20-homer power.

Perez has fringy speed and doesn't take many chances on the bases. The Dodgers shuttled him between second base, third base and shortstop in his first two pro seasons before deploying him mostly at the keystone in 2024, though the White Sox used him more at short after the trade. He needs more defensive consistency and fits best at second base with his so-so range and average arm.

2024

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

The Dodgers signed a number of promising hitters from the 2022 international class to relatively modest bonuses, including Perez for $397,500 out of the Dominican Republic. He tied for the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League lead with 11 homers while making his U.S. debut in 2023 and finished the season in Single-A as an 18-year-old. He has been one of the best teenage hitters in full-season ball this year, which led the White Sox to acquire him in a three-team trade in July that sent Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham to the Cardinals and Michael Kopech to the Dodgers.

Perez has lightning-fast hands that produce tremendous bat speed from the right side of the plate. He has an advanced approach, rarely chasing pitches or missing them in the zone, and produces exceptionally hard contact for his age. He also shows tremendous feel for pulling balls in the air without selling out for power and could produce 20 or more homers per season.

Though Perez is a quality athlete, he's just an average runner. After dividing his time between second base, shortstop and third base in his first two years as a pro, he has played almost exclusively at the keystone in 2024. His average arm strength is better suited for second than the left side of the infield.
