Chourio isn't nearly as famous as his older brother Jackson, the Brewers outfielder who ranks No. 2 on MLB Pipeline's 2024 preseason Top 100 Prospects list and signed a record $82 million contract before making his big league debut. But Jaison offers a high ceiling as well and has impressed since signing for $1.2 million, landing the highest bonus in Cleveland's 2022 international class. The Venezuelan batted .304/.446/.411 in his first two pro summers and made a cameo in Single-A at age 18. He raked at that level in 2024 and was on the verge of a promotion when he broke his left wrist diving for a fly ball in late August, ending his season prematurely.
A switch-hitter who's proficient from both sides of the plate, Chourio has an intriguing combination of tools and skills. Extremely advanced at the plate for a teenager, he recognizes pitches and controls the strike zone while focusing on making contact to all fields. He still needs to add muscle to his 6-foot-1 frame and learn to pull and lift pitches, but once he does he should develop the power to provide 15-20 homers per year.
Chourio's speed, center-field defense and arm strength all earn solid to plus grades from scouts. He makes the most of his quickness, stealing 34 bases in 40 attempts in his first 88 games as a pro and enhancing his range in center with good reads and routes. He has no glaring weaknesses and could begin to advance quickly in 2024.

The younger brother of Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio, the biggest breakout prospect of 2022, Jaison offers considerable upside as well. He landed the top bonus in the Guardians' 2022 international class, signing for $1.2 million out of Venezuela in January. He broke into pro ball by hitting .280/.446/.402 in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League, walking nearly twice as much (40) as he struck out (22).
One of several gifted young switch-hitters in Cleveland's system, Chourio recognizes pitches and controls the strike zone well beyond his years. He shows good feel for the barrel from both sides of the plate and distributes hits all over the field. Once he adds some needed strength and learns to turn on and lift pitches, he should have 15-20 homer power.
A well-rounded player, Chourio earns solid-to-plus grades for his speed, arm strength and center-field defense. His instincts enhance his physical ability and could make him a 20-20 player one day. He possesses one of the highest ceilings among Guardians farmhands and also comes with a higher floor than most teenagers.

Brewers outfield prospect Jackson Chourio has taken the Minors by storm in 2022, and the Guardians hope his younger brother will deliver on his considerable potential as well. Jaison received the largest bonus in Cleveland's 2021-22 international class, signing for $1.2 million out of Venezuela in January. His advanced hitting ability immediately translated at the pro level with a strong debut in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League.
Chourio adds to the Guardians' collection of gifted young switch-hitters. He has precocious feel for the barrel from both sides of the plate, recognizes pitches well and controls the strike zone. His power is mostly projection now because he makes a lot of ground-ball contact and his 6-foot-1 frame needs more muscle, but he should eventually provide 15 or more homers per season.
Chourio's speed, arm strength and center-field defense all earn solid-to-plus grades from evaluators. His instincts enhance his tools, and he projects to steal bases and serve as a fine table-setter atop a batting order. While there's no reason to think he'll have to move out of center field, his tools would fit well in all three outfield spots.

Chourio, a switch-hitting outfielder from Venezuela, will sign as a center fielder, and that’s where he is going to stay for the foreseeable future. There’s a thought that the lean and wiry teen is too dynamic and athletic to play another position.
Chourio projects to be an above-average runner and have a plus arm. He takes efficient routes in the outfield and gets good jumps on balls hit into the gaps. At the plate, he continues to develop, and like many prospects his age, he is working on his plate discipline and pitch recognition.
Overall, he’s a solid blend of tools and projection.
Baseball is in the family. Chourio’s older brother Jackson Chourio, a shortstop, signed with the Brewers during the previous international signing period. Jaison is represented by Cesar Suarez, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program. The Guardians are the favorite to sign him.
