Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 40 | Cutter: 40 | Changeup: 60 | Control: 50 | Overall: 40

Nezuh went from working just 18 innings in two seasons at Florida State to becoming Louisiana-Lafayette's top starter in 2023. The Astros put more stock in his pitch metrics than his 6.25 career ERA in college and selected him in the 14th round. He ranked 10th in the Minors with a 30 percent strikeout rate in his 2024 pro debut between two Class A levels but wasn't as effective while dealing with elbow issues in Double-A last year.

Nezuh's upper-70s changeup has improved a lot since his college days, with its splitter action baffling both lefties and righties. It creates tremendous vertical separation from his fastball, which parks at 91-94 mph and touches 96 with huge carry. To remain a starter, he'll need to find a reliable third pitch from among a sweeping low-80s slider, a mid-80s cutter and a mid-70s curveball he has mostly shelved.

Nezuh works from a higher arm slot that costs him some deception. Since battling the strike zone at Florida State, he has developed average control and good feel for playing his fastball and changeup off each other. Those two pitches alone could make him a useful multi-inning reliever.

2025

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 40 | Slider: 40 | Changeup: 65 | Control: 50 | Overall: 45

Nezuh worked just 18 innings in two seasons at Florida State before transferring and becoming Louisiana-Lafayette's top starter in 2023. He pitched well down the stretch and held his own in an NCAA regional playoff game against Texas, prompting Houston to draft him in the 14th round. He raised his stock with a strong pro debut that included leading the Single-A Carolina League with 105 strikeouts in 81 2/3 innings before his mid-July promotion and ranking 10th in the Minors with a 30 percent K rate.

Nezuh has significantly upgraded his changeup since college and now owns one of the best in the Minors, a low-80s cambio that plunges at the plate and confounds both lefties and righties. It has tremendous vertical separation from his fastball, which sits at 93-95 mph and reaches 97 with the flat approach angle and carry that the Astros covet. He needs to improve his below-average breaking balls, a sweeping low-80s slider and upper-70s curveball with similar shape.

After not throwing strikes in his two years with the Seminoles, Nezuh has done a better job of harnessing stuff since. His biggest need is to find a reliable third pitch, and he has begun toying with an upper-80s cutter. If he can't stick in the rotation, his fastball/changeup combination could make him a late-inning reliever.

2024

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 50 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 65 | Control: 50 | Overall: 40

Spencer Arrighetti transferred from a major college program (Texas Christian) to Louisiana-Lafayette, became a mid-round Astros pick and reached the big leagues. Nezuh is following the same path after moving from Florida State to the Ragin' Cajuns in 2023, becoming their top starter before going in the 14th round. He has opened eyes with his pro debut this summer, leading the Single-A Carolina League with 105 strikeouts in 81 2/3 innings before a promotion in late July.

One of the best changeups in the Minors drives Nezuh's success, as he features a low-80s cambio that drops at the plate and baffles lefties and righties alike. He's using it more often and having more success with it than he did in college. The changeup pairs well with a 93-95 mph fastball that tops out at 97 with the flat approach angle and carry that the Astros target in pitchers.

Nezuh also sports two average breaking balls with similar shape, favoring his sweeping low-80s slider over his upper-70s curveball. After battling his control in his two years with the Seminoles, he has improved his strike-throwing enough to reasonably project as a starter. His changeup also could make him a high-leverage option if he winds up in the bullpen.
