Tiger spent the shortened 2020 season at Butler County (Kan.) CC, left school in 2021, then returned for the next two years. He set Grizzlies records for single-season (121) and career (243) strikeouts, as well as career wins (21) in 2023 and became the highest pick (seventh round) in school history. He dazzled during Spring Breakout last March, missed the first two months of the season with elbow inflammation, then compiled a 2.93 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 46 innings at three stops. But his elbow gave out in August, requiring internal brace surgery in September that will sideline him for all of 2025.
A healthy Tiger can blow hitters away with a four-seam fastball that sits at 94-97 mph and tops out at 100 with quality carry but modest life, and he holds his velocity deep into games. His upper-80s slider hits 92 mph and misses bats with its two-plane depth, though it’s more of a chase pitch than one he can land regularly for strikes. After he turned pro, Texas had him dump a traditional mid-80s changeup and add a promising upper-80s splitter.
Tiger’s athleticism and clean delivery give him decent control, though his lack of fastball life and overall deception means his stuff can get hit harder than it should if his location is off. The Rangers considered having him try a curveball to give him a non-power pitch, but his elbow issues scrapped that plan, at least for 2024. He has the upside of a No. 3 starter but he’ll also be 25 with just 50 innings of pro experience when he returns next year, so he could get expedited as a reliever.

Tiger began his junior college career at Butler County (Kan.) CC during the shortened 2020 season, was out of school in 2021 and then returned for the next two years. He set school records for single-season (121) and career (243) strikeouts as well as career wins (21) in 2023 and became a rare 22-year-old juco draftee when the Rangers made him the highest pick (seventh round) in Grizzlies history. He impressed in a brief pro debut that included six strikeouts in three hitless innings in the Single-A Carolina League playoffs.
Tiger's four-seam fastball parks at 94-97 mph and tops out at 100 with carry but only modest life, and he maintains his velocity deep into games. His upper-80s slider touches 92 mph with two-plane depth, inducing a lot of empty swings, though he'll have to prove he can land it for strikes when hitters don't chase it. Texas had him scrap a traditional mid-80s changeup and install an upper-80s splitter with promising tumble.
A quality athlete with a clean delivery, Tiger provides a decent amount of strikes. He does lack fastball movement and overall deception, so his stuff gets hit harder than it should at times. The Rangers will work with him to improve his pitch shapes and perhaps add a curveball to give him a softer option, seeing a potential No. 3 starter who also offers some intrigue as a relief option.
