Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Renteria has been a longtime participant on the travel ball scene since a young age. Evaluators have pointed to those experiences and his maturity as positive marks in his favor as he gets his professional career underway. At just 15 years old, Renteria went 8-for-28 with three doubles – collecting hits off two former big leaguers – during a stint in the Venezuelan Major League last summer. He trains extensively with César Suárez at CJ Baseball Academy, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.
Renteria earned comparisons from one evaluator to Konnor Griffin, the Pirates’ 2024 first-round pick who ascended to No. 1 overall prospect status in his first year of pro ball. Others see even more in the tank for Renteria’s right-handed hit tool due to his advanced offensive approach and considerable bat speed. He’s presently a contact monster, which when coupled with his excellent understanding of the strike zone and his plus-plus raw power, leads to him having one of the highest offensive upsides in the 2026 international class.
Players who command significant signing bonuses and attention on the international scene are often physically ahead of their peers, a truism that Renteria fits to a tee. Scouts think the 6-foot-3 outfielder has the actions and all-around athleticism to stick in center field long-term. An above-average runner, Renteria impacts the game on the basepaths and utilizes those wheels and his long strides to run down the ball from gap-to-gap.

Renteria came in at No. 3 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 50 International Prospects list when the 2026 signing period opened in January. His combination of experience in travel ball, on the international scene at events like the 15U World Cup and his success at age 15 in the Venezuelan Major League last summer made him a hot commodity. The Phillies jumped in to get the talented outfielder who trained with César Suárez at CJ Baseball Academy, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program, for $4 million and executives in the organization are having a hard time containing their excitement.
Because of his potential to have five very loud tools, one evaluator compared Renteria to No. 1 prospect Konnor Griffin. Renteria is big, strong and athletic, and has already shown a knowledge of how to put his tools to use that belies his years. The 6-foot-3 right-handed hitter checks off all the boxes offensively with his feel for the barrel, elite hand-eye coordination, a propensity for hard contact, strike zone know-how and immense raw power.
Renteria is also an impressive athlete, one who is a plus runner who has the chance to stick in center field long-term. All of it plays up because of his aptitude and early baseball IQ, with many within the organization feeling he’s the best all-around offensive prospect they’ve seen in quite some time.
