Next up in the Holliday baseball line, Ethan is the son of Matt and younger brother of Jackson. More physical than his brother, Ethan more resembles his dad, and he ended up being taken by the Rockies, the team where his father established himself as a star. The youngest Holliday spent most of the runup to the Draft as the top-ranked prospect in the class and was part of the No. 1 overall pick discussion, but Colorado was thrilled he made it to them at No. 4 overall. He signed for a high school player record of $9 million, then got his feet wet with a push up to full-season Fresno.

Holliday might have as much raw and usable power as anyone from the class of ‘25. When at his best, the 6-foot-4 left-handed hitter can get to it without a ton of effort. He already has strength, bat speed and leverage in his swing while continuing to add physicality to his frame. Worries about swing-and-miss cropped up when he was on the summer showcase circuit, and he expanded the zone too much, and there were a lot of whiffs during his brief pro debut, but he has the chance to be a solid all-around hitter with big home run totals. 

A shortstop in high school like his brother, Holliday is agile for his size with average speed. His arm works from the position, and he has decent actions, but he’s unlikely going to be able to stay there because of his range. A move to third base would make the most sense, where his power-hitting profile should fit well.

Ever since Jackson Holliday went No. 1 overall in the 2022 Draft, he has told people that his younger brother is better than he was at the same stage. Ethan is more physical and powerful than Jackson and much more closely resembles their father, the seven-time All-Star, Matt. Both brothers scuffled on the showcase circuit entering their Draft years, but while Jackson was considered a second-round talent at that point, Ethan was a leading candidate to get taken No. 1 in July throughout the whole process. He ultimately ended up going to his dad’s old team, the Rockies, at No. 4 overall. His $9 million bonus was a record for a high school player.

Gatorade's Oklahoma Player of the Year, Holliday may have the most usable left-handed power from his Draft class and he generates it with little effort. Still adding to his 6-foot-4 frame, he already has plenty of strength and an easy left-handed swing with plenty of bat speed and leverage. He tried to do too much when he got pitched around on the circuit last summer, leading to some swing-and-miss concerns, but he should develop into at least an average hitter with 35-homer pop and plenty of walks.
