Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 55 | Control: 35 | Overall: 40

Reyzelman underwent Tommy John surgery as a San Francisco freshman in 2020 and couldn't find the strike zone as a sophomore, then overpowered hitters as a reliever after transferring to Louisiana State and worked his way into 2022's fifth round. He worked just 8 2/3 innings in his first two years as a pro while dealing with a cyst on his back that required three operations before compiling a 1.16 ERA, .136 opponent average and 41 percent strikeout rate while rocketing to Double-A in 2024. His stuff and strikes went way backward in Triple-A last season, when he missed the final two months with a mild back strain.

When he was rolling two years ago, Reyzelman paired a 94-97 mph fastball that hit 99 and featured good carry with a tight low-80s slider with significant horizontal action. In 2025, his heater dropped 2 mph and lost life while his sweeper lost 4 mph and often didn't come close to the strike zone. He had an effective low-80s changeup with huge fade in 2024 but it became so unreliable that he abandoned it last season.

Reyzelman works solely out of the stretch and uses a three-quarters arm slot to create a low release height and wide angle that's tough on right-handers. He struggled to keep his mechanics in sync last year, when his walk rate spiked to 22 percent from 12 percent the season before. He may never have more than below-average control and command, so he'll need to regain his sizzling stuff from 2024 to succeed in a big league bullpen.

2025

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 35 | Overall: 40

Reyzelman had Tommy John surgery as a San Francisco freshman in 2020 and couldn't throw strikes as a sophomore before transferring to Louisiana State in 2022. His mid-90s fastball and success as a reliever got him drafted in the fifth round that July, but he barely pitched in pro ball before last year because of a cyst on his back that required three operations. Finally healthy in 2024, he posted silly numbers (1.16 ERA, .136 average-against, 41 percent K rate) in 31 appearances between three stops, mostly at Double-A.

When he dominated in 2024, Reyzelman showcased two plus pitches in a 94-97 mph fastball that touched 99 with more ride than armside run and a tight low-80s slider with significant horizontal break that worked against both lefties and righties. His changeup showed similar velocity and big fade in the opposite direction, though it lacked the consistency of his other offerings. But his arsenal has backed up this year, with his fastball losing 2 mph, as well as life, his sweeper often missing the zone by a wide margin and his changeup becoming unreliable.

After throwing 94 percent fastballs at LSU, Reyzelman has changed his approach and cleaned up his mechanics in pro ball. He works out of the stretch, creating a flat approach angle with a low three-quarters arm slot. If he can recapture his 2024 stuff and do a better job of keeping his delivery in sync and providing more strikes, he could join New York's bullpen in the near future.
