During the 2019-20 international signing period, the Braves weren’t allowed to sign any amateur free agents for more than $10,000 as part of the penalty for previous signing infractions on the market. That doesn’t mean they weren’t able to find any talent. They nabbed Joseph in November 2019 when he was already closing in on his 19th birthday, and he wasn’t able to make his pro debut until 2021. He spent three years either in the Florida Complex League or with Single-A Augusta until 2024, when he managed to pitch his way from High-A Rome to Double-A Mississippi. 

It’s not difficult to figure out what Joseph, 24 for all of the 2025 season, is all about. He’s a two-pitch-only reliever who offers power and more power. His fastball sat at 98 mph in 2024 and touched triple digits, missing bats at a 36 percent clip thanks to good ride up in the zone. He unfurled his slider, topping out at 89 mph, more than his fastball and it’s easy to see why: The nasty breaking ball produced a 45 percent miss rate last year, according to Synergy.

The one thing that has held Joseph back has been his control, and he enters 2025 with a career 5.9 BB/9 walk rate to go along with his 12.2 K/9 rate. He found the zone a bit more consistently to start the year, which enabled him to reach Double-A for the first time, but there’s a reason why the Braves didn’t put him on the 40-man roster to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft and why he wasn’t taken. It’s clear his stuff would be good for the backend of a bullpen, but he won’t see any high leverage situations unless he can improve his command.
