Pitts was a “famous” high schooler in the Atlanta area at a very early age, and he actually committed to the University of South Carolina as a shortstop before he even began his high school career. By the time his Draft year came around in 2025, he had moved to the outfield and changed his college commitment to the University of South Florida. He might have had the chance to move up boards more during his senior year, but a hamstring issue slowed him considerably. After being able to work him out a couple of times and getting to know more about his makeup, the Reds rolled the dice and took him in the fifth round, going a little over slot at $575,000 to sign him.
Pitts didn’t make his pro debut after signing and he was slow coming out of the spring as he continued to nurse his hamstring back to health. The Reds think this was a good upside play based on his athleticism and potential to stay up the middle. A right-handed hitter and thrower, Pitts’ carrying tool is the speed he wasn’t able to showcase much his senior year, getting 70 grades from some evaluators when he’s healthy. He’s shown off solid raw power at times and a decent feel for hitting that gives some hope he can tap into that pop consistently in the future.
That plus speed is also an asset defensively, and Pitts has the athleticism to play center field at the next level, albeit with an arm that needs work. It’s a bit of a lottery ticket given that he wasn’t seen that much in 2025, but if he can get past the hamstring problems, there’s some ceiling for him to grow into.
