Colon grew up in Puerto Rico and came to the United States for his senior year of high school in the Miami area. He caught the attention of the Reds, who had some bonus pool money left over as Day 3 began in 2024. They went about $100,000 over the post-10th-round slot to sign him in Round 11. He learned a lot in going to full-season ball during his first full season in 2025, then returned to Daytona and was making big strides in the Florida State League to kick off 2026.
A strong and athletic right-hander who is about an inch taller and 20 pounds heavier than his listed height and weight, Colon has future rotation potential if he can improve his command. Right now, he leans heavily on his fastball-split-change combination. It's a plus heater that currently sits around 96 mph and touches 98 mph, getting outstanding induced vertical break on the pitch to elicit strong swing-and-miss rates. He can kill spin and gets good horizontal action on his upper-80s changeup that also can miss bats. His slider thrown at about the same velocity continues to improve.
Colon is athletic on the mound, with a short stride that leads to less-than-optimal extension. In addition to rounding out his arsenal with a dependable breaking ball he trusts, Colon needs to continue to improve his control and command. He showed some improvement in that regard to kick off 2026 and he gets high marks for his maturity at age 20, providing optimism he can figure things out.
