Not to be confused with the former Georgia safety with a similar name and build, Jackson spent his first college season at Wofford, winning Southern Conference freshman of the year honors and helping the Terriers earn their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory in 2024. After splitting time between the outfield, catcher and DH for the Bulldogs as a sophomore, he became a full-time backstop and exploded this spring. The first catcher in Division I history to total 25 homers and 25 steals in the same season, he became the third triple crown winner in Southeastern Conference history (.379, 32 homers, school-record 87 RBI), led NCAA Division I in runs (88) and total bases (212) and won the Golden Spikes Award as the top amateur player in the United States.
Jackson is extremely strong and hits the ball extremely hard from the right side of the plate, looking like a taller version of Tyler O'Neill. He has demonstrated a selective approach throughout his college career and is doing a much better job this year of making contact, both against velocity and against non-fastballs. There's still some swing-and-miss to his game but he's getting to his well above-average raw power more consistently and crushing homers from foul pole to foul pole.
More athletic than most catchers, Jackson can flash plus speed and regularly posts average run times. He's improving behind the plate and projects as an average defender once he polishes his receiving and blocking. He features solid raw arm strength but throws with effort and needs to improve his technique and accuracy. If he can't stay behind the plate, he could handle the outfield corners in pro ball.

That led to the Rockies taking him in the Competitive Balance Round A and signing him for a just-under-slot bonus of close to $2.3 million.
