After Jaworsky impressed with his athleticism at the 2023 MLB Draft Combine, the Astros spent a fifth-round pick and an over-slot $847,500 bonus to lure the Colorado prepster away from a commitment to Utah Valley State. His top priority was to add muscle to his skinny 6-foot-1 frame and he has added about 15 pounds since turning pro. He showed steady improvement as a 19-year-old in Single-A last year and made the jump to High-A in 2025 before Houston sent him to the Marlins in a trade for Jesus Sanchez in July.

A left-handed hitter, Jaworsky has good bat-to-ball skills but needs to improve his selectivity while continuing to gain strength. While he shows the ability to make adjustments and uses the entire field well, he currently makes a lot of soft groundball contact. Added physical development could result in 12-15 homers per year, though he'll always be a hit-over-power guy.

Jaworsky's most obvious tool is his plus speed, which he used to steal 28 bases in 78 games last season. He has nice actions and range to both sides at shortstop, though there are questions as to whether his average arm will be enough to remain at the position. His quick release and good internal clock will help him, but some scouts think second base and center field are more realistic destinations.

Fellow shortstop Walker Martin (second round, Giants) claimed most of the high school scouting spotlight in Colorado last spring, but Jaworsky also went in the fifth round to the Astros, giving the Centennial State two prep position players drafted that early for the first time. Jaworsky, who impressed with his athleticism at the MLB Draft Combine, signed for an over-slot $847,500 to forego a commitment to Utah Valley State. His pro debut consisted of nine games in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.

Though there were mixed amateur reports on Jaworsky's offensive upside, Houston likes his approach and believes he'll make consistent contact. He focuses on hitting the ball from gap to gap and shows the ability to make adjustments at the plate. He has a left-handed swing with promising bat speed but won't drive the ball with much authority until he adds some much-needed strength.

Jaworsky also comes with questions about his future defensive home. He does have plus speed but just average arm strength that he enhances with a quick release and good internal clock. The Astros will give him every chance to stick at shortstop, while other clubs thought that second base was more realistic and center field will be the most likely destination.
