One of the more physical sluggers in the 2024 high school class, Harlan put on an impressive show during batting practice at the Draft Combine that June. The Dodgers signed him for a well-over-slot $1,747,500 in the third round and then put his pro debut on hold so he could have surgery to repair the labrum in his right hip, an injury that had nagged him for two years. He split his first pro season between Rookie ball and Single-A last summer, homering nine times in 68 games.
With a strong 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame and a quick right-handed swing, Harlan creates at least double-plus raw power. He lets his pop come naturally as he doesn't chase excessively or sell out to pull balls in the air, though he has trouble making contact against non-fastballs. He posted an .886 OPS vs. heaters, compared to .376 with a 52 percent swing-and-miss rate against all other types of pitches.
Harlan moved better with a healthy hip, displaying fringy speed, though he's not much of a factor on the bases. He has enough range and the solid arm strength to get the job done at third base but needs more consistency after making 14 errors in 52 games there. If he has to move off the hot corner, his other options would be right and left field as well as first base.

Part of a Central Bucks East HS (Doyleston, Pa.) program that produced 2020 Rays first-round right-hander Nick Bitsko, Harlan was one of the more physical prep sluggers in the 2024 Draft. He hit the ball harder than most players who took batting practice at the Draft Combine before signing for a well-over-slot $1,747,500 in the third round. Bothered by a hip injury as a junior and a senior, he had surgery after turning pro and will make his debut in 2025.
Harlan attracted the Dodgers with his at least plus raw power, the product of a quick right-handed stroke and the strength in his 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame. He has a tendency to tinker with his setup at the plate, and he fared better after raising his hands as opposed to hitting out of a crouch. He's a power-over-hit guy who will need to upgrade his pitch recognition after scuffling against non-fastballs on the showcase circuit.
Though some scouts were concerned that Harlan looked thicker and less agile last spring after adding some muscle, he moves well for his size and may be quicker with a healthy hip. He has the solid arm strength desired at third base but will have to maintain his fringy-to-average speed in order to have the range needed for the hot corner. If not, his power and arm could land him in right field.

Four years after producing a first-round pitcher in Nick Bitsko, Central Bucks East HS (Doyleston, Pa.) offered one of the more physical prep power hitters in the 2024 Draft. He smoked balls harder than most players who took batting practice at the Draft Combine before the Dodgers picked him in the third round. He gave up a commitment to Clemson to sign for a well-over-slot $1,747,500.
Harlan packs a lot of strength in his 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame and it combines with his quick right-handed swing to give him at least plus raw power. He has tinkered with his setup, finding more success after raising his hands rather than operating out of a crouch. He'll need to improve his pitch recognition after struggling against non-fastballs on the showcase circuit.
Harlan moves well for his size, though some scouts were concerned that he appeared thicker and less agile this spring after adding some muscle. He'll need to work to maintain his fringy to average speed in order to have the desired range for third base. His solid arm strength isn't in question and could land him in right field if he doesn't stay at the hot corner.

Sometimes it’s not only about how a prospect performs on the summer showcase circuit, but how he adjusts over the course of it. While Harlan, the best position player in Pennsylvania for the 2024 Draft, showed off some intriguing offensive tools at a variety of events like the East Coast Pro Showcase, the Area Code Games and the Perfect Game WWBA World Championship in September, it was how he changed some things and adapted over the course of all those events that had scouts excited, though some were concerned that he appeared less athletic and flexible this spring.
Harlan is a big, strong, physically mature corner infielder with some serious pop. He had more of a power-over-hit profile, with a little more strength than pure bat speed, but there is some belief the bat might eventually catch up with the raw power. He began the summer hitting from a crouch with a lower handset, but by the time he was in Jupiter at the Perfect Game event, he had raised his hands back up and was letting them work more freely, showing a better hit tool overall.
Speed isn’t a huge part of Harlan’s game, but he’s posted decent run times and been fairly athletic in the past. He seemed more bulked up and less agile early this spring, though he has at least an average arm and should have every chance to stay at third base. If the swing changes stick, he should have more than enough bat to profile well at the hot corner.
