The Phillies had spent $6.1 million of their close to $6.7 million international bonus pool as the 2026 season opened, but they knew they wanted to land Park, a projectable 17-year-old right-hander from South Korea, to their organization. So they traded Griff McGarry to the Dodgers and Andrew Baker to the Rockies for a total of $750,000. That gave them enough room to sign Park for just over $1.2 million in May and keep him from being one of the top pitchers in the KBO Draft.
Park wanted to pursue a career in the United States rather than head to the top league in Korea, and now he'll get his chance. He's still growing and now stands at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds with as many as five pitches in his arsenal. Throwing from a three-quarter slot, he can get up to 94 mph with his fastball, generally sitting in the 91-93 range, with late ride at the top of the zone. He can also run and sink it occasionally against right-handed hitters. He has feel to spin two distinct breaking pitches in his curve and slider, the latter registering 2,800 rpm spin rates. He has a changeup and splitter for offspeed options to kill spin -- using the fading change more frequently -- against hitters on both sides of the plate.
The Phillies really like Park's ease of operation on the mound, showing an ability to repeat his delivery. He's athletic, with a feel to pitch and an ability to execute that belies his years. That gives him a very good chance to start long-term, and given how much strength he can add to his frame, there's excitement about his ultimate ceiling.
