Caminiti was an exciting two-way player who looked like he might be a top pick in 2025, but he reclassified to become one of the youngest members of the class of ‘24. His future was clearly on the mound, and as the top-ranked high school arm heading into the Draft, he went No. 24 overall to the Braves. The Arizona native signed for full slot, just over $3.56 million, but his pro debut in 2025 was delayed by forearm tendinitis. After a handful of Complex League games, he made it to full-season ball in June and threw very well over 13 starts with Single-A Augusta.
A 6-foot-2 lefty, Caminiti has the makings of what is now a legitimate three-pitch mix. He sat around 93-94 mph during his pro debut, touching 97 mph, with good ride and carry up in the zone. He threw his fastball more than half of the time, making it tough to pick up thanks to some deception in his delivery while commanding the pitch very well. As an amateur, his two breaking balls often blurred into each other, but he’s shelved his curve for now and focused on his low-80s slider, which he sometimes struggled to land for strikes (but missed bats at a 41-percent clip). His mid-80s changeup also missed bats, but like the slider, inconsistently found the zone.
Caminiti’s athleticism as a former center fielder plays well on the mound, adding conviction to the belief he’ll be a solid strike-thrower in the future. There’s still plenty of projection and ceiling here, and he’ll still be a teenager for most of the 2026 season, with plenty of time for him to grow into being at least a mid-rotation starter.

When Caminiti, a cousin of the late Ken Caminiti, reclassified, he became one of the youngest players in the 2024 Draft class at age 17. He was ranked as the top prep arm in the class and ended up going No. 24 overall, signing with the Braves for just over $3.56 million, full slot for that spot in the Draft. The Arizona native, who was a solid two-way player in high school, didn't pitch after signing.
The teenaged southpaw has a potential four-pitch mix with a ton of projection. He can touch 98 mph with his fastball and sat 93-95 mph in his final year of high school ball, with more consistent velocity to come. It features good ride and carry up in the zone and is thrown with some deception, so it misses bats, and he can command the heater pretty well. His breaking stuff can run into each other at times because he doesn't always finish the offerings well. But at his best, he does have a distinct slider and curve, though it might be possible he focuses on just the slider as he gets going in his pro career. His changeup took a big step forward in 2024, and it should be at least above-average for him.
Caminiti was a center fielder when he was a position player, and his athleticism enables him to repeat his delivery and find the strike zone. There's a lot of ceiling here as he focuses on pitching only for the first time, with the potential to develop into a very good big league starter.

A cousin of Ken Caminiti, Cam was thought to be one of the best players in the 2025 Draft class when he reclassified for 2024. That made him one of the youngest players in the class, only 17 years old at the time of the Draft. A solid two-way player who could be a prospect as a hitter, he separated himself on the mound with strong performances on the summer showcase circuit and continued his dominant performances back home in Arizona this spring. He was the highest-ranked high school arm in the class, and many thought he would go in the middle of the first round. But the Braves were thrilled when they were able to take him at No. 24 overall and sign him with a full-slot bonus of $3.56 million.
Caminiti has the potential to have four legitimate pitches in the future, with projection to all of them. He already throws plenty hard, with a fastball that can touch 98 mph and sat 93-95 this spring, and scouts feel there's more in the tank. He commands it well and it misses a lot of bats thanks to ride and carry up in the zone, combined with deception in his delivery. He can show a distinct curve and slider, though both can get loose because of inconsistent finish, and among scouts there is a bit of a split camp over which is the better offering. But this spring he answered a lot of concerns about his feel to spin. He hadn't used his changeup much at all prior to this year, but it became a real go-to pitch for him, giving him another at least above-average offering.
The athleticism Caminiti showed when he played center field helps him on the mound, and there's confidence as he matures he'll be able to use his repeatable delivery and be a consistent strike-thrower with every chance to be a big league starter.

Committed to LSU, he has the chance to be the first Arizona prep pitcher to be taken in the first round since Matthew Liberatore went No. 16 overall to the Rays in 2018.
