Scouting Report

2025

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 55 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 55

Bonemer created mixed opinions with his up-and-down performances on the summer showcase circuit in 2023, homering twice at Perfect Game National and going 6-for-11 with three doubles at the Area Code Games but scuffling elsewhere. Gatorade's Michigan high school player of the year in each of the last two seasons, he joined Noah Schultz (2022), George Wolkow (2023) and Blake Larson (2024) as prepsters who earned a seven-figure bonus from the White Sox after playing for their Area Codes team. Signed for an over-slot $2,997,500 in the second round of the 2024 Draft, he played better in their bridge camp after signing than he did as a senior.

Bonemer had one of the quicker swings in the 2024 prep class and combines it with strength to create well above-average raw power. He holds his hands high at the plate, adding length to his right-handed stroke, but he also has a history of hammering quality fastballs. He tends to look to launch balls to his pull side, which can result in popups and strikeouts, but he did a better job of driving the ball to right-center after turning pro.

Though he's slow out of the batter's box because he takes huge hacks, Bonemer is an average to solid runner once he gets going and has clocked plus times in the 60-yard dash. He has soft hands and can pull off throws from a variety of angles with solid arm strength from shortstop. He could be a solid to plus defender at third base and definitely has the power to profile there.

2024

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

Gatorade's Michigan High School Player of the Year in both 2023 and 2024, Bonemer put on some monster performances on the showcase circuit last summer. He homered twice at Perfect Game National and went 6-for-11 with three doubles at the Area Code Games but struggled at other events, so opinions varied based on when scouts saw him. Once considered a potential first-rounder, he lasted until the top of the second but landed an over-slot $2,997,500 bonus.

Bonemer featured some of the best bat speed in the 2024 high school class, and it combines with his strength to give him well-above-average raw power. How much it will translate into game production is a matter of debate because he aggressively looks to launch balls to his pull side, which leads to popups and strikeouts. He holds his hands high at the plate, which adds some length to his right-handed swing, but he also has little difficulty handling premium velocity.

Bonemer's speed is tough to peg because he takes big hacks that lead to below-average home-to-first times, but he's average to solid once he gets going and can record plus times in the 60-yard dash. He has soft hands and can make throws from a variety of angles with solid arm strength at shortstop, though he may not have ideal quickness for the position at higher levels. He profiles better at third base, where he could be an asset defensively.

He homered twice at Perfect Game National and went 6-for-11 with three doubles at the Area Code Games but struggled at other events, so opinions vary based on when scouts saw him. Once considered a potential first-rounder by some clubs, he hasn't had a strong spring and is more likely to go in the second round.
