Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 50 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 40

Auger began his college career at Hinds (Miss.) CC in 2021 before he transferred to Mississippi State and blew out his elbow the next spring, leading to Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for all of 2023. Used mostly as a reliever as a redshirt junior, he added velocity late in the season and dazzled in a spot start at the Southeastern Conference tournament, notching more strikeouts (13) than balls (12 on 78 pitches) while three-hitting Mississippi for eight innings. Signed for a discount $197,500 in 2024's sixth round, he has emerged as a legitimate prospect while repeating High-A this season.

Auger now works in the mid 90s with quality carry and some armside run on his four-seam fastball, which explodes on hitters because his delivery features elite extension. The best of his three secondary options is a tight mid-80s slider that he'll sometimes turn into an 89-93 mph cutter. His feel to spin extends to an upper-70s curveball that yields a lot of ground balls, and his fading mid-80s changeup gets swings and misses against left-handers.

With a high three-quarters arm slot, the 6-foot-5 Auger creates an unusual combination of high release height and extension that throws hitters off. He has no problem throwing strikes with all of his pitches, though he can nibble a bit much at times and walk more batters than he should. He could fit in the back of a big league rotation or serve in a multi-inning relief role.
