Wichrowski wasn’t high on many Draft boards after posting a 4.50 ERA with 64 strikeouts and 25 walks in 50 innings as both a junior starter and a reliever at Bryant, and he headed to the Brewers organization as a 13th-round pick who signed for $100,000. Few in the 2023 class have shared his helium since. Wichrowski began to show better velocity in instructs last fall, was a quick standout in Spring Training and dominated at High-A Wisconsin with 21 strikeouts over four starts (14 2/3 innings). Milwaukee promoted him to Double-A Biloxi quickly in early May.

The 6-foot-2 right-hander will now hit triple-digits and generally sits in the mid-90s after maxing out there in school. On top of the blazing four-seamer, he’ll add in a sinker to go for a different movement profile. That fits in well with his east-west approach. His low-80s sweeping slider can look like a frisbee at times and leads to funky swings. Wichrowski will also show an upper-80s cutter that has sharper action. He lacks a changeup that is up to the standard of his other pitches, and even with his early 2024 success, lefties have handled him much better than their righty counterparts. 

Wichrowski had control issues in school, leading to his multiple roles. His walk rate was considerably lower in the Midwest League, but batters helped by chasing his nastiest stuff out of the zone. How his strike-throwing holds up at the upper levels deserves following as the 21-year-old launches himself toward Milwaukee’s rotation or its bullpen as a potentially lethal two-pitch reliever.
