Callahan was a career .351 hitter at St. Joseph’s and posted an OPS above 1.000 in both his sophomore and junior years with the Hawks. But questions about how he’d hold up against better competition dropped him to the 13th round in 2023, and the Tigers picked and signed him for $197,500. He’s shown flashes of dominance at virtually every stop since but has struggled with injuries, including a dislocated finger and right lower leg hematoma in 2024 and a pulled quad in 2025. He finally cracked Double-A to begin 2026 -- his age-24 season -- with positive results out of the gate.

A left-handed hitter, Callahan has long shown promising raw power as a professional, and he proved that this spring in limited Grapefruit League looks with a pair of home runs hit above 105 mph and one batted ball at 112.2 mph. But an overly aggressive approach early in his career seriously put into question how much of that pop translated into game action at the upper levels. Callahan, who has gone from an open stance to one more straight-on while keeping his leg kick, has been less swing-happy to begin ’26, allowing his walk rate to double in the season’s first month and making a potential MLB future all the clearer.

Standing 6-foot, the former Atlantic 10 first-teamer can get moving out of the box, and he’s proven capable of making strong throws from the grass. The Tigers have rotated him around the outfield because of both skillsets, and he could prove to be above-average defensively in a corner. Much will come down to maintaining his early swing-decision improvements, especially with Rule 5 eligibility coming up this offseason.
