A true gamer who rose to prominence at Kansas State for his speed, discipline and defense -- he led the Big 12 in steals (40) and walks (55) as a junior while being named a Gold Glove finalist -- Jones signed with the Yankees for $150,000 as a 2024 12th-rounder. He's hardly missed a step in pro ball with 69 stolen bases and nearly as many walks (111) as strikeouts (130) across his first two seasons of pro ball, and ended 2025 at Double-A. The Marlins acquired him along with three other prospects in January for Ryan Weathers to add to their outfield depth on the farm.

Jones holds his hands high and maneuvers his barrel around the zone to make frequent contact on all pitch shapes. He controls the zone well and rarely chases, taking pride in getting on base. The Tennessee native has not made much hard contact, though, and doesn't have much projection left in his 5-foot-10 frame. The Marlins hope a mechanical change will make him more powerful so he can at least fill a Brett Gardner-like role.

Not only does Jones possess impact speed, but he's also highly efficient and isn't afraid to take an extra base. He's similarly an intellectual defender in center field -- and a quality defender in the outfield corners -- with a good sense of how to position himself and average arm strength. Jones is a high-character player who gets high marks for his motor.

Though he was a 12th-rounder, Jones was the highest-drafted position player to receive full slot value ($150,000) from the Yankees in the 2024 Draft. He led the Big 12 Conference in walks (55) and stolen bases (40 in 42 attempts) as a junior that spring, then topped New York farmhands in swipes (51) and ranked second in free passes (82) during his first full pro season. The Yankees sent him and three other prospects to the Marlins to acquire Ryan Weathers in January.

Jones has an extremely patient approach, rarely chasing pitches out of the zone but also taking a fair amount of strikes. A left-handed hitter, he makes reliable contact against all types of pitching. Though he’s not very physical and his focus is getting on base, his combination of sneaky pull pop and ability to lift the ball in the air could result in 12-15 homers per season.

Jones has well-above-average speed and uncanny basestealing ability. His quickness also helps him cover ground in center field, where he’s a solid defender. With his range and average arm strength, he’s capable of playing all three outfield spots.
