Though he was a 12th-rounder, Jones was the highest-drafted position player to receive full slot value ($150,000) from the Yankees in the 2024 Draft. As a junior last spring at Kansas State, he led the Big 12 Conference in walks (55) and stolen bases (40 in 42 attempts). He continued to showcase his on-base skills and speed in his 24-game pro debut, drawing 29 free passes and swiping 18 bases in as many tries.
Jones has an extremely patient approach, rarely chasing pitches out of the zone but also taking a fair amount of strikes. A left-handed hitter, he makes reliable contact against all types of pitching. Though he’s not very physical and his focus is getting on base, his combination of sneaky pull pop and ability to lift the ball in the air could result in 12-15 homers per season.
Jones has well-above-average speed and uncanny basestealing ability. His quickness also helps him cover ground in center field, where he’s a solid defender. With his range and average arm strength, he’s capable of playing all three outfield spots.
