Bragg is a late bloomer who had an uneven few years pitching out of Nebraska’s bullpen before he moved on to Dallas Baptist and became a money-saving senior sign for the Orioles in the eighth round of the 2023 Draft. He spent his entire first full season at Low-A Delmarva as a 23-year-old, opening some eyes with a strong six-start run down the stretch. But he really landed on radars in 2025, pitching to a 1.68 ERA over his first 12 outings and reaching Double-A. His sudden rise was halted by Tommy John surgery in July and is likely to shelve Bragg for the entire 2026 season.

Bragg was throwing harder and missing more bats at the upper levels before the injury, impressing with a five-pitch mix that plays up due to plus control. His low arm slot allows him to get ride and run on his four-seam fastball, which averages around 95 mph and can be dialed up higher, and he also throws a two-seamer to generate ground balls. He backs up the heaters with three secondaries which all can miss bats: a low-80s slider, mid-80s changeup and a cutter he can crank into the upper-80s. At least a couple of those offerings have a chance to be plus pitches.

Bragg generates excellent scores on stuff and location models and throws a lot of strikes, hinting at the possibility that the Orioles have a legitimate starting pitcher on their hands once he returns from surgery. But Bragg also doesn’t come with a long track record of amateur success, and if he doesn’t return late in 2026, he’ll be 26 years old by the time he gets back on the mound in game action.

Bragg spent three years pitching -- often sporadically -- out of Nebraska’s bullpen, though he did save five games as a junior in 2022. He moved on to Dallas Baptist for his senior season and threw well enough for the Orioles to take him in the eighth round of the 2023 Draft as a money-saving senior sign, joining the organization for an under-slot bonus of $100,000. He really didn’t land on any radars for most of his first full season, spent at Single-A in his age-23 campaign, with a 4.45 ERA through July. He opened some eyes by posting a 1.14 ERA and .208 BAA over his final six starts, then really emerged in 2025, quickly pitching his way to (and excelling with) Double-A Chesapeake, before Tommy John surgery in July derailed his progress.

The Orioles are excited about how Bragg has been using a solid four-pitch mix at the upper levels. His fastball averages around 95 mph and flirts with triple-digits, per Synergy. He backs that heater up with three secondaries which all can miss bats: a low-80s slider, mid-80s changeup and a cutter that he cranks up into the upper 80s.

Making all of this stuff more interesting is that he’s shown the ability to land them all for strikes and is missing bats at a higher rate than he did in college while keeping his walks low. It’s still a relatively small sample size from a pitcher without a long track record of amateur success, but the Orioles might have a legitimate starting pitcher on their hands once he returns from surgery.
