Jackson Chourio has put Maracaibo, Venezuela, on the map for modern ballplayers, having gone from a top international prospect in 2021 to a NL Rookie of the Year candidate in ‘24. Antunez, who has been a long sought-after member of the 2025 class, was born and trains in the same northwestern Venezuelan state and boasts a similarly advanced gift to impact the game with both his bat and wheels. He trains with Emiro Barboza at Go Pro Baseball, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.
Equipped with a repeatable right-handed swing that features an up/down front leg kick to tap into his extra-base pop, Antunez has shown an ability to pepper the ball to all parts of the field on the amateur circuit. He boasts a selective eye and is known for stringing together competitive at-bats. While his bat is quick through the zone, his stroke can get long at times, a side effect of attempting to drive the ball to the gaps with an increased frequency.
Originally an infielder during his younger years, Antunez has made the shift to the grass and taken to it with aplomb. His high-energy style fits well in center, although his overall athleticism could make him a dynamic fit at a multitude of positions as his body continues to fill out. He figures to get the chance to play up the middle as his pro career gets underway.

The Brewers have been the kings of international scouting and development in recent years, and the organization went back to Maracaibo, Venezuela -- Jackson Chourio’s hometown -- to add Antunez in January 2025. Ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 42 international prospect, the outfielder signed with Milwaukee for $900,000. Antunez hit just .215/.353/.282 with one homer and 21 steals over 55 games in the Dominican Summer League during his first foray into the pros, but the Brewers have pushed him stateside for 2026 (his age-18 season) all the same.
Early performance aside, there’s still a ton of potential in the 6-foot, right-handed slugger’s game. Antunez utilizes a leg kick to get going at the plate, and the power he’s shown to this point has come to all fields; he’s particularly impressed evaluators with his ability to drive the ball the opposite way, given his age and experience level. The raw power could end up being above-average in the end, but he needs to curtail his young aggressiveness at the plate to get to it in the full-season levels.
Antunez has above-average speed and was willing to display it with 27 total stolen-base attempts last year in the DSL. He’ll need to hold onto those wheels to stick in center field, his only position in pro ball entering 2026, and that remains an open question depending on how his body matures into his late teens and early 20s. Sticking up the middle would be huge for his overall profile, but if he does get into more regular in-game pop with added strength, that could be useful in the corner outfield spots too.

The Brewers have proven to be not only good at scouting internationally but honing in on Venezuela specifically. Jackson Chourio remains the poster boy for signing and development for the system in recent years, while top 2025 prospect Jeferson Quero also hailed from the same South American nation. Milwaukee went back to Chourio’s hometown of Maracaibo to sign Antunez, who ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 42 international prospect in the 2025 class, for $900,000 at the opening of the signing period in January.
Antunez uses a leg kick to get into his extra-base power, and as an amateur, he displayed abilities to drive the ball to all fields. He already has quality bat speed, adding to the level of offensive excitement, and he has the power potential to hit 20-plus homers down the road. There is some length to his swing, however, stemming from his desire to pound the ball on contact, and that could lead to some early hiccups on the pro side.
Antunez transitioned from the infield as a youngster to the outfield, much like Chourio did after signing, and he has the overall athleticism and energy to fit in center field. It’s going to be a process for him out there as he continues to learn reads and routes, but Milwaukee officials highlighted that everything is trending in the right direction as Antunez enters pro ball. Once comfortable and fully established in the outfield, he could be Milwaukee’s next international success story.
