Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Hit: 40 | Power: 50 | Run: 70 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 40

Owusu-Asiedu had a background in the United Kingdom, Canada and Wisconsin before landing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. A promising turn in the 2022 Appalachian League (.965 OPS) preceded a junior year breakout with the Cougars in ’23 (.986 OPS, 15 HR, 24 SB), and both performances helped push him to the ninth round that July. Owusu-Asiedu really struggled with Single-A Clearwater in his first full season with a 36.1 percent strikeout rate, but he cut that by more than 12 points in his return in ’25 and then held his own in High-A Jersey Shore after an in-season promotion. He was dealt to the D-backs in the offseason in a straight-up swap for lefty reliever Kyle Backhus.

Listed at 6-foot-4, the right-handed slugger has an interesting profile from a tools standpoint. He moves quickly as a plus-plus runner and regularly posted sprint speeds above 30 ft/sec in the Florida State League. That helps him cover ground well in center field, and he’s seen some time in the corners, where evaluators believe he’d be plus if he has to slide over full-time eventually. Clocked up to 97 mph from the grass, he can give opposing runners something to think about and he even threw out top prospect Konnor Griffin on a play at the plate last season.

The bat could be what holds him back. Owusu-Asiedu can post impressive exit velocities -- topping out at 112.7 mph with Clearwater in 2025 -- but he struggles more on making contact in the zone than is desirable, in part because said zone is so big. The trend line is promising, but entering his age-23 season, he’s still yet to be tested in the upper Minors. He’ll make for an interesting development case in his second organization as Arizona tries to get him enough bat to be a potential fourth outfielder.
