When the Dodgers were scraping together enough international bonus pool money to sign Roki Sasaki in 2025, the Reds were one of the beneficiaries. They acquired Lantigua, who had originally signed for just under $700,000 in January 2023 then spent two summers in the Dominican Summer League, for $1.5 million in bonus pool funds. He came stateside to play for the first time with his new organization, performing well enough to move from the Arizona Complex League to full-season Daytona.
A big, strong and physical right-handed hitter, Lantigua has the chance to be an impact hitter. He’s already putting up outstanding exit velocities, and given his bat speed and long levers, it’s easy to dream on continued power after he homered 12 times in 2025. His approach did suffer with the move to the Florida State League. He struggled particularly with breaking and offspeed stuff, though he still rarely missed a fastball.
Lantigua will play all year at age 20, so there’s plenty of time for him to make adjustments and find the player who did a better job of limiting his whiffs and chases while drawing walks. That’s important because it’s his bat that will carry him up the ladder. He’s limited defensively and will have to play a corner. That puts more pressure on the offensive profile, but the Reds feel the ceiling as a run producer is very much still there.

The Dodgers are annual big-time players on the international market, and the 2023 signing period was no different, landing No. 3 prospect Joendry Vargas for just over $2 million and giving Lantigua (No. 23 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 50 International Prospects list) $697,500 to join the organization. He stumbled a bit during his pro debut that summer, hitting .222 -- albeit with seven homers -- but a return to the Dominican Summer League led to much better results. Lantigua hit .301/.430/.575 with 11 homers, tied for second in the DSL. The Reds had noticed, and when the Dodgers were looking to acquire international bonus pool money in order to sign Roki Sasaki, Cincy got Lantigua’s offensive potential in return.
A 6-foot-2, right-handed hitting outfielder, Lantigua has already displayed very usable game power in his brief pro career. He hits the ball very hard, and there are evaluators who would put plus grades on his future power because of the exit velocities. With that, he has a very good feel for the strike zone and excellent swing/miss and chase rates, especially considering how much power he has. He’s walked almost as often as he’s struck out.
Lantigua has improved his speed since turning pro, and with average speed, an arm that might be above-average in the future and that pop at the plate, he could fit the right field profile perfectly. The Reds are excited to bring him stateside for the first time, knowing there’s risk given that he’s yet to do anything outside of the DSL, but the possible reward and ceiling are considerable.

The power-hitting outfielder from the Dominican Republic is big and strong now, and more strength could be on the way.
Latingua’s ability to make consistent contact and hit for power stood out for most scouts, as he clocked exit velos over 100 mph in batting practice and games. If he continues to develop at a normal pace, he could turn into a middle-of-the order type of bat in the future because of his offensive prowess. But like most prospects his age, Lantigua can be overly aggressive in the batter’s box and needs to be more patient at the plate. He’s working on strike zone recognition and fine-tuning his approach.
Overall, he has a chance to stay in center field because of his speed and arm strength, but he also profiles as a right fielder for those same reasons. He’s a decent defender, but it is his hitting potential that has him in the spotlight. He trains with Marino Sierra in the Dominican Republic. The Dodgers have shown interest in him.
